2013 Triumph Trophy

Looks good

Never ridden a touring bike so may grab a test ride

wait and see, the review is written on the basis of 600 miles, and presumably with a view to not upset the provider, its a bike that needs to be test ridden, it will have a great engine and will be cheaper than an RT, so has got to be worth a look.

The SE is over £14k :type

I picked up an RT SE last week and after 800 miles I am starting to think it might be one of the best bikes I have ever owned for comfort, handling, braking and real world performance. Triumph appear to have copied nearly every aspect of the RT including the appearance which is probably a good idea as the BMW is the culmination of years of evolution and refinement and Triumph can imitate that as well. The decider now is how the Triumph stands up to hard use including winter riding if it attracts a similar high mileage, all year round riders as the RT and also depreciation: BMWs hold there value really well and after a bad spell seem to be back on top of build quality.
I will certainly consider a Triumph in the future and it's great we can now buy a British product that appears to be the equal of what the Germans offer :clap

Edit: Times are tough: only a mug pays RRP at the moment

Ive just traded my 61 plate RT in after 6 months of ownership and putting 10k on it.

i have used it for riding to the Ardennes most weekends and i have been impressed, before this i owned 2 GSA's and a GS, the the RT did its job really well but on a 11 day ride with mates to the Black Forest and the Alps i was left found wanting.............fun. i have found myself not wanting to go for a ride and if i do i take the motorway and just get there, on the GSA i would plan a twisty route, so i pick up my new GSA on saturday but will miss the RT on the occasion for a relaxing no nonsense get there quick job.

Things i will definantly miss are the cruise control ( bad hand ) and that bit more smoother delivery ( no vibes )

for everything else, i need my GSA back :thumb2

In an ideal world and i had the money i would have both

The new 1250GS will have cruise control and smoother delivery:D:hide You should have waited a bit longer:rob:blast

No way, are you nutty..... i much prefer the GSA and would not own another GS, to me it's like 2 differant bikes, the new GS will have cruise control but the GSA in the water cooled manner is still 2 years away. :augie

That's only because you are not a very good rider compared to your mates :augie

Gotta love the front end on the RT, it is so forgiving, brake late, brake mid corner, no sweat, just wish it could do something about the punch in the ribs, now and then:D

Looks great in all the photos and videos - what I want to know is what does it look like with the panniers off - bet its like a PAN f*ckin awful!

The more I ride the RT the more I love it - great ride, great feature, lasts tyres well and does enough to excite me - maybe I am a slow rider......

I will probably test ride a Trophy when ready for a change but not that ready yet - only big positive I see is BMW will have to get their act together as regard Sales offers and start chucking in some freebies to keep RTers in the camp!

Rik

I had the same thought as to what it looks like without the panniers....... I am guessing, not too good.........but even the RT looks better with the panniers on......!
I wonder if BMW will bring forward the water cooled RT now ? Hope so !!! We might glean something at the press conference at Intermot next month.........

I don’t think copying BMW so closely really does them any favors. Its unlikely to sway many RT riders away from BMW being such a copycat bike and regarding the weight issue, Kevin should have put a similarly equipped Triumph and RT on the scales and seen what the real world difference is instead of making guesses

I’ll wait for the water cooled RT thanks
