2013 Triumph Trophy

This is the RT sub forum. If you want to discuss the Trophy why not go to Triumph Torque or Triumphrat.net:rolleyes:

Seems as much talk about K bikes than Trophy. Why don't you tell them to piss off too?

Any competitor machine is valid as a subject as comparison. What you try to hide :hide

I don't particularly but somebody else did....it looks as though the topic has been hijacked and is now a K13 v K16 thread....just an observation

So was my comment about this being the RT sub forum, just an observation. There is a Triumph sub forum on UKGSer so maybe this thread should have been moved there?

Anyone found any pictures of the Trophy without the paniers on?

Called in my local dealer at the weekend - be a while before they see one for demo.

Hi Rik,

Popped in to my local at the weekend, they reckon there demo will be on for end of next week once the "launch" night is out the way? Popped my name down for the open evening and a test ride anyways

Although also interested in seeing without panniers

Kevin Ash Trophy Review

Now I normally rate his reviews and have faith in his impartiality but this seems a bit confusing

"Just one area bothered me, and chatting to other riders as well as Triumph staff I seem to be in a minority over this, but I thought the ride quality could be better. The suspension soaks up small bumps and washboard surfaces very well, but larger bumps, especially sharp ones such as the edges of potholes, can really jar through the bike. Maybe I've been spoiled by the excellence of Triumph's own Tiger Explorer, which performs very well in this respect, but after a long time on board I found the jiggling, restless ride of the Trophy tiring"

and goes on to say "its claim to be the new king touring bike looks utterly compelling"

I dont see how the two can go together? A touring bike is for all day touring, if its tiring how can it be the new king? I guess the king is dead, long live the king, until that king dies then long live the next one................. sort of reminds me of the Golf GTI which; loses its crown at every new competitor launch and then nips over at night and steals it back whilst no one is looking.

I was very sceptical when I first rode the k16, being guided by a ride on the K1300GT which I found handled like a barge.

Some would say "barge", others "stable" :rob. I'm in the "barge" camp...

Never mind: there's a solution (http://www.schwabenmax.de/Navigation/Hauptnavigation BMW K1300R English.htm) - and it's not expensive. I raised the rear by 25mm and the bike's handling has been transformed. Now it's almost as flickable as my Triple Black was. The difference is down to the KGT's additional weight. High speed stability is unaffected (the bike was rock-steady at 145mph two up with luggage in Germany until my pillion complained about wind pressure :augie).

BTW, the Schwabenmax Quick Throttle modification (also available for the R1200) is absolutely brilliant. Full throttle available without having to regrip.

As I said, I don't see how either the TT or the K16 advance motorcycle development, apart from introducing added complication.

Seen it in the flesh now as they say. Generally it's pretty impressive and the engine sounds great. I just think its a bit let down in one or two areas by a rather unharmonious overall design and in areas poor design detail. Not ridden it of course, it may ride great, but looks do matter.

Went & had a look at the Trophy at my local dealer yesterday.
The screen showing the various radio/suspension options certainly looked better & more user friendly than the RT but that aside I can't say it had much else in it's favour IMO.

TBH it looked to me like a prototype for a great touring bike, as if someone had thought about all the bits you might want on a long distance bike & lumped them all on wherever they could find the space as they thought of each idea.

But the RT looks like the finished model, so to speak. As if someone said 'Yes, great ideas, now let's make them all integral & easy to get to.'.

In essence, for me, the Trophy looked agricultural, basic & cheap (though I know it isn't), compared to the RT which looks sleek, well designed & overall far more aesthetically pleasing.

I've certainly ruled the Trophy out on the basis of it's first incarnation.

A fair post IMO (as a 2013 MY owner of an RT SE :D).

Whilst the RT isn't perfect , what bike is, Ive got to say the RT overall is a great bike to own and use. I've had nothing but sheer pleasure from mine since day one :thumb2 Great engine, silk like gear box, love the ESA 2 etc. The only small criticism is the mirrors but I can live with that as the rest is so good :clap

+1 no doubt it will ride nice and the engine will be smooth - but it just looks shabby :blast

Oh well, looks like my triple ownership will wait for the next revision maybe.
