2014 early WCGSA switches being replaced: sort of recall

Switches are fine on both my 2015 BMW's ;) As they bloody well should be.:rob

And I make a point of using the kill switch EVERY time I ride.:augie

The supplier either makes something to the customers specification or makes something and the customer is satisfied with that specification.

Bmw can easy change the spec or change supplier.

The switch elements are commercial off the shelf parts as far as I can see, which are then assembled into the plastic housing by a subby - the switch elements are as far as I know the same as the ones used in the 1150 - I helped a mate fix one a couple of weeks ago, we bought the elements from Digikey.

BMW need to do something about it because it is a bit of a pain, some users have had them changed multiple times, others have lasted for ages.

Be careful as Lord Snooty will be along in a moment to tell you off. :blast

Oh and he is a twat for using the emergency kill switch to stop the bike, that is what the ignition key is for. There is a reason it is called the "emergency" kill switch, use it only in an emergency, and now he knows why because that have been know to jam in the off position, it is basic stuff which is taught at CBT level.

:soapbox: :bash

Its the GS too. Right hand side kill switch is subject to a recall on mine, feb 2014 build. No great shakes, half an hour while you wait.
Yep, it's the right hand kill switch. A general recall on the early 2014 GS TE. Had it done in 20 mins the other day by Duffys. It's no problem.

Same here I also have a 2015 model ..no probs at all ..wonder if the switches were upgraded ? the only niggle I have had is the heated grips are not hot enough..its going in for a software update in the next week though for this

If BMW cars had the same quality issues and recalls, people would boycott their products, why do we keep putting up and making excuses? my bike is now 12 months old and has had 5 warranty calls and 1 recall. what with engine corrosion, gearbox issues it is depressing on a fair number of bikes. I suspect it is because it is not the main transport for many. just because other bike manufacturers have similar issues does not make it acceptable. Maybe bike magazines should print articles on some of these known problems?

My heated grips are also fine. I feel left out :comfort:D

2015 GSA TE

2015 (64) model (October) GSA TE, right hand kill switch has gone funny.

Really need to push it and I get a large click before it will start, feels like it about to fall apart and then I'll be stuck!

Just ringing the dealer (Wolverhampton) now to see if they can fit me in early next week.

"There is a puma on your right hand switchgear'" said the dealer. Whatever that means.

It means that the dealer has reported it to BMW as a possible claim - I think.

My nearside 'Daytime Running Light' bulb failed. But you can't just stick a new LED lamp in it! Oh no, one has to replace the whole unit!!!! Indeed. So I had it replaced (under warranty of course) and then I was told that there was a recall on the right hand switchgear, which all needed to be replaced. No dramas, job done in half an hour. I wasn't aware of the 'recall' until I had to take the bike in, so my guess is the dealers where possible will try and tie the 'recall' work in with a normal visit to reduce on some of their own costs. Perhaps. Or not. Maybe. Who knows? Who cares? Who dares wins. Who's that knocking at the window? WTF :thumb2

2014 gsa te 64 reg left hand switch gear problem with the cruise control have to hold the lock switch back at an angle whilst doing the same with the small switch :-(

Boxes Full

Hi

I have been told by a very reliable source that most main dealers have boxes full of failed switches, the failure rate is bigger than most of us would imagine.

I love the boxer engines and have put two hundred thousand miles on 3 1100 variants without anything other than diy servicing. Next year I have decided that I am going the have a change but am really undecided on which way to go, preference would be to stay with BMW but I really could not put up with the idea of paying a premium price for budget fixtures.
