2014 early WCGSA switches being replaced: sort of recall

have had a few issues with mine , all resolved under warranty.

would I buy again ? yes. its the best bike I have ever ridden.

when taking into account the sheer number sold , I think BMW has a winner in their new engine/bike.

The people on the BMW stand at the show are there to sell bikes. They will, of course, deny all knowledge of any faults, as there are lots of potential new customers milling around. There is a procedure to get your bike fixed/ replaced, you just have to follow the procedure, and it will get sorted. To leave the bike in the garage and not ride it, is not the way to go.

If you have problems I can understand how frustrating that situation could be. As I said, in my case BMW are on it and hopefully will be resolved on Thursday when BMW H/O are coming to the dealership and testing the bike and bringing some spare bits with them. In this case the dealer originally said there were no faults showing, had shared the data with BMW who said the same.

I left despondent only to be rung by the dealer a couple of weeks later saying they had been talking my case through with BMW and could I bring the bike back in. Clearly, very happy with the proactive dealer response which will hopefully sort the bike.

I agree that something like switch gear is nothing to get too exercised about if BMW are being open an proactive in sorting. The problem comes when you have an issue that changes the characteristics of the bike which causes you to lose faith in the product. Clearly people will be disappointed having shelled out a considerable whack.

So...trying to be balanced and wil report back later in the week.

It sounds like you've got a good dealer there.:beerjug:

Make sure you're there when HQ are there, as they are the guys to have the face to face discussions with. If it's the same guys I met at Vines, they'll be keen to put this right. And don't let them go until either the bike is fixed, or you've thrashed out a solution. Be prepared to reject the bike, and have some good arguments why.:thumb

PM me if you want to discuss further, as I have first hand experience of this.:thumb

Went one better and spoke to the lead person from technical support on the bmw stand at the nec , he denied ever having heard of any faults on the gsa wc regarding esa suspension, gearboxes, faulty switchgear, poor finish, .

Was it a tall bald headed chap ! Steve bellars

Thanks Nutty, good advice...I pick up with you a little later if that's OK.

Cheers

Switches now replaced to correct one failure (left side) and one PUMA (right side). All working well but none have a quality feel especially the left info switch which feels cheap and gritty!
(Engine a delight to ride again but still lacks the 'unstoppable' pull away from standstill torque that my loan F700GS had. My WCGSA feels like it will stalll so much easier than any of my previous GS's . This is undoubtedly a lean burn issue which I'll get Hilltop to sort in the future.)

Early GS LC

It was fine for the first 12 months, then was left in rain overnight and switchgear, both left and right played up. Dealer is sourcing new ones from Germany----slowly.

Has been 10 weeks now and still no switches. Anyone heard of a ship sinking??

Good news and bad am afraid.

Good - is the ship with your switches on has been salvaged.

Bad - the switches are waterlogged and worse than the set you have already got. :thumb
