Hey All

I have a 2014 F700GS which won't start.
As the weather has started to clear up, I took the battery off of the conditioner a few weeks ago and re-installed onto the bike.
The bike fired up first turn of the starter, ran for a few seconds, then died. I now can't even get a squeek out of the starter.
Following the first panic searching of youtube and fb, the consensus was the start button/kill switch assembly is often problematic.
I took apart, cleaned up and re-installed...no joy.
I then bought a replacement and this was also unsuccesful.
The kill switch seems to be working as the fuel guage drops when it's activated but the starter button is doing nothing.

Anyone have any ideas?

I'd suggest that you get the battery load tested to check if it is fit for purpose.

The fact that it's been on a battery conditioner doesn't mean that it holds sufficeint capacity.

Just my ramblings.

When you turn the ignition on your speedo does one sweep…..all is good. If you battery is on the way out a second sweep will occur about five seconds later. Ive owned a F650 twin and now my F700 continuously since 2012. In that time I recon I buy a new battery every three to four years. It maybe the immobiliser, or some other parasitic drain , but even the yellow motobatts dont exceed four years. I also hook up abattery tender for 24 hrs every 3/4 weeks in the winter , but thats all I get out of a battery. My sons Vespa which did less than two hundred miles a year (3 runs max) had a battery that was going strong at 7 years when I sold it on here.

Cheers
I'll check that later this week.

You need to eliminate the battery by doing some checking before you go off on a fruitless pointless search. A set of jump leads will tell you if it’s a bad battery. Check all the usual suspects is it in gear? And so on. Just because the battery is on a charger doesn’t mean it’s good. Charger could be faulty and actually fried it. I’m not saying that it’s definitely the battery but you haven’t done enough checking yet. JJH

And so after months of inactivity (life got in the way) the mystery is solved.
It didn't need a jump start
The battery wasn't knackered.
It wasn't a faulty kill switch.
It wasn't the side stand safety switch.

It's an immobiliser issue, just waiting on a final diagnosise (and invoice) from Motorrad.

It was the ring antennae which senses the key in the ignition that was faulty. Part of the immobiliser system I understand. £200 to diagnose and replace. Could have been worse.
Now a different problem has arisen. Engine management light and orange triangle illuminated whilst riding, bike appeared to go into limp mode momentarily a few times.
Bike then cut out and won't start.
I'm going back to a bike without all of this electronic shite.
