I do this every time I change bikes.

Run it dry, fill to the brim to see how much it will actually hold.

Actually this time I got bored and ran it to range zero then drove a further 15 miles, I could have gone further.

Then filled to the brim, it took 26.29 litres = 5.78Galls so .55lit less than the Twin cam when I measured that.

How many miles did you get from full to zero ?

I put the trip to zero on fill-up. If you add the trip mileage to the 'miles-to-go range' during the journey this must give the rough total range.
My RT WC has been showing 310/320 miles total range @55mpg (English). Actually 55mpg gives you 302 miles for 25 litres so I assume there is a drop more than 25l.

But is it less? By your own admission you ran all previous bikes dry , but not this one. How do you know there wasn't .55 litres left in the tank when you decided to add fuel , after you became bored?

So I know how far I can go on a full tank.
I (will) eventually know what my fuel consumption is depending on how I drive, so I will know how far I can go without relying on the computer/tank guage. Q.E.D.

Personally I never trust the computer. I always fill up zero trip and on next fill calculate actual MPG. On average my actual calculated MPG is 2 MPG less than computer average figure. Must admit very impressed with the fuel efficiency. First 3 weeks of ownership done 2500 miles most 2 up and have averaged 54 MPG.

Very useful information.

I rode from Saxmundham (Suffolk) to Portsmouth - St Marlo to Chabanais, south west France I do have the mileage somewhere but in total about 8hrs riding gave me a return of 57mpg according to the bikes computer. I am happy with that with the type of riding neither flat out nor hanging about.
