Hello you wise people and sorry if this issue has been addressed before. I have GS 1200 Adventure from the year 2006. It seems to have a tank capacity of 27 litres. Even if I ride it until it stops due to lack of fuel, I can only fill 27 litres in it. I always try to fill it as full as possible, by moving and shaking the bike while filling. I only get about 500 kms (about 310 miles) with full tank. When the fuel is running out both the fuel gauge and the computer correctly inform me that the range is 0 km.

The manual says that GSA tank capacity is 33 . Have I missed something? :nenau

Not that it would make up for all those litres - there is some fuel (a little) in the fuel line ;)

mine had about 10 miles left on the trip and i only seem to get 27 litres in.

The most I've had is 36.5 ltrs in mine in the past.
I've been having a problem recently with differing mileage range readings.
Sometimes it cuts out and still tells me I have 20 miles to go. Other times it goes beyond 0.
On all occasions if I lie the bike on the ground on it's left hand side then pick it up again it's miraculously finds enough fuel to cover another 15-20 miles (which must be close to 2 ltrs by my reckoning).

It must be something wrong with the fuel pump!
Mind you , I never roun out off petrol, I top-up my tank when is half full :)

If I ever fall off - i will claim that as a reason :)

I put 33 litres dead in mine a week ago. Computer said 40 miles still left in range. Done 320 miles on that tankfull.

It sounds like the secondary pump isn't transferring the fuel from the right side of the tank to the left properly.

I got just over 30 litres in yesterday and the range prior to the fill up was showing 25 miles left so pretty accurate I would say

I normally get around 300- 320 miles before the fuel warning comes on

"It sounds like the secondary pump isn't transferring the fuel from the right side of the tank to the left properly."

This makes sense to me, thanks When I last time picked my bike from the regular 70 000 km service I noticed that all the three "tubes" which attach the round thing on the top of the right-side tank were loose. I connected them by myself and the bike seems to funcion well (apart from the fact that I only can consume 27 litres from the tank).

Can somebody tell me the correct way to connect the two similar black tubes on the top of the right side tank (the third one can be connected to one place only) ? My problem is that the BMW dealer is 150 kms from here and I do not have time to visit it.

the attached link might help, click on 16 (fuel supply) then on the relevant diagram on the Left hand panel, it will then come up on the RH side with a list of parts etc, might help

i suggest first you run the bike dry again and then see how much you can slosh from right to left, if you get another 50/60 miles then what you say is true, if not you wont waste time mucking about on the bike

I fill mine up with about 20 miles left on the range and get about £43 in it - works about 33 litres plus a couplemleft in so about right.

400 mikes to a tank ful! I'm impressed if I get 300.

filled mine up today, trip said 25 miles left and it only took 27.7 litres. rang BMW up and they said there is just 1 fuel tank, there is no secondary tank etc... they said the most likely explanation is that the trip is inaccurate and there isnt 25 miles left. so think i might run it dry and see. got 340 miles to my last tank full
