All instruments went completely blank half way through pressing the starter button even after a long ride that morning.

BMW call out diagnosed a cell problem and it was replaced. Disappointing life span to say the least.

As an aside there was a peculiar parallel event which leaves me a bit suspicious.

I have a ctek charger comfort lead with flashing indicator permanently connected directly to the battery.

The Flashing light has long stopped working although the lead is still fine for charging. I have not worried about this at all - just thought it was broken.

However, very strangely whilst waiting for the emergency rescue the ctek green light was flashing for the first time in years. In fact the battery was producing less than 8 volts and had no capacity according to engineer.

Now I have a brand new battery – and guess what there is no light flashing.

Can this be explained? Might it be some contradiction with the BMW canbus wiring system?

I know there are members here who love this sort of mystery.
