2014 RT's GROUNDED! DO NOT RIDE!

So why didn't BM just supply a dumb non-ESA shock so the owners could keep on riding their bikes? Or the dealers do it as a cheaper option to loads of loan bikes?

because they have created a generation of riders too fucking dumb to be able operate a manually adjustable shock?

Because to fit a non esa rear shock the electronics would have to be disabled with an electronic work around, then it probably not be safe to use a esa front and non esa rear so it would require the front shock to be changed as well and its electronics disabled.
So it would need the bike to be fitted with a pair of shocks as a temporary measure to get bikes back on the road, cheaper for bmw to do what they have done and rely on owners accepting loan bikes etc.

Looking on the positive side of things: I am in the market for a 1200RT LE with ESA and all the bits and there will be a glut of very low miles 9 to 12 month old bikes with full dealer paperwork and fully modified ESA available. My local dealer says he has a number of owners who have swapped for K16s or 12GSs or gone for a refund and I am definately going to fill my boots. It's an ill wind etc

As generation is regarded as 25 years and I have ridden through two of them, which one are we talking about :D

It's a plan, hope it works for you :thumb2

Last communication I had from CW's was that shocks will be with them week 34 (next week 18th August) hopefully a quick turn around!

Never Mind that plan when are we getting our RT's back?

I hear all sorts of rumours but no positive dates........

:blast
I'm sure it will be much quicker than the FD and fuel strip solutions that BMW never came up with for the last RT :thumb

I heard the end of this month the shocks would start arriving with a modified shaft. It may have been said already in the 3200 pages and 2.1 million comments but I also heard the the shaft hadn't been hardened properly (Ohh err missis).

I'm with Puggy too, hopefully a few have decided a GT or GS is a better and NOW option for their 2014 tour, have got to like it and have stumped for one of them instead.

For me, I don't think you can fault Beemers service and I'd happily still have any BM knowing how good they've handled it.

There seems to be an echo on the line.

Ive had both as loan bikes the GT16 was great fun on the road but a nightmare to put away in the Garage due to the weight…The GS was superb fun..so I ordered the GSA which is due first week in Sept for collection …. Im going to keep this till All the issues on the RT are sorted and will hopefully return to the RT this time next year ..I ride through winter a lot so it will be interesting to see how the GSA stands up to it, having read quite few corrosion articles on the GSA site.

I agree with the BMW customer service they have done there best in what I'm sure was a nightmare for them too

Just seen a letter being sent out to UK '14 RT customers, last paragraph says they are extending the warranty by 3 months.

Yep.. Just got my letter from BMW confirming the 3 month warranty extension...nice

Also that all of our RT's should be back with us within the next 2 weeks.....:bounce1:clap

So extended warranty, £500 gift vouchers, full tank of fuel, valet plus safety check, a bit better than the first offer.

Have you received notification of that?

The Doris has just handed me a letter with a certain 3 letter logo, all had become transparent! Good news it seems...

The first line / question preceded my knowing any such letter existed. The second line was an edit post letter magically materialising courtesy of domestic management.
