2014 RT's GROUNDED! DO NOT RIDE!

I only payed £17,600 for my new LE, complete with topbox, nav 5 and Akra HP exhaust....so I'm pleased that used bikes are holding their value well.

 You sir have FAR to much money.

 You sir have FAR to much money.

Why??

If you buy a new RT with some toys on board, that's what they cost.

If you want a used RT, whether it is 1 year or 10 years old, someone has to buy it new and enjoy riding a state of the art bike that is the business. The person buying it new provides the supply of used bikes.

So, why does someone have far too much money for buying a new RT?

Yes, couldn't agree more.

But Stever 1 is from Yorkshire :D

Because no bike should cost that much, AND I'm from Yorkshire !.

Remember the definition of a yorkshireman. Like a Scotsman, but with the generosity removed.

Oh ok. Fairy nuff. That explains everything!
And I do agree that no bike should cost £18k new...

Really, how do you work that out?

The £14700 is the dealer's retail selling price - so a buy-in price would be a lot less, if you were selling - maybe £13500

Even a £3k drop to £14700, for a 2100 mile bike has cost the original owner£1.42 per mile, for every one of those 2100 miles :D

Although this is a slightly artificial RT situation, we have seen similar drops on recently sold new 12GSA WC's, with a £2-£3k drop within a few months of original purchase
Wouldn't you expect at least a 3-3 1/2k drop, purely on the vat paid on the new bike?

Still an eye watering amount of money to lose in a few months though ( someone else from Yorkshire!)

You would of course Phil

The smart guy is the one who bought it used @ £14700

There was a 12 GSA WC on here with less than 1000 miles for £2k less than new, some cheaper hardly used bike's to be had if you use your noddle

Let someone else take the first hit

Couldn't give a stuff about that brand new bike 'look at me' feeling nowadays, to wheel it out of the showroom & lose your shirt

Find a hardly used one instead for £2-£3k less :)

Oh, and you were soooo nearly there with your last sentence. ...

Should read, wait 10 years and buy a hardly used one for 2-3k..
Ooh yeah, thats better ;)

 You sir have FAR to much money.

Not now that I've Spunked it all on a new RT...:augie
And its not even the most expensive bike in BMWs range, as a fully speced K1600 or HP4 will crack 20k+

That will be another one from Yorkshire :D

When I picked my ' bike up on Tuesday the dealer reckoned that the whole shock had been replaced, not just the strut. I don't really care, it handled fine on my 2 hour trip to Lincoln and back yesterday. (Clutch less gear changes, what joy!)

(Clutch less gear changes, what joy!)

I started my biking life on a 1959 Triumph Thunderbird (6T) combination - you had to have a chair on anything over 250 cc's then on a learners licence.

This was fitted with a "slick-shift" box which meant you only needed to use the clutch in first from a standstill and after that the clutch disengaged from the gear lever (RHS by the way)

There's not that much around that hasn't been tried before - even if it was a bit rudimentary back then :jager

Know all about the Slickshift box having ridden 'bikes since the 60's in particular Triumphs (got a Triton in my workshop at the moment) but you weren't able to change up on full throttle and changing down still needed the correct clutch / revs. Not so with the RT, pin the throttle and just snick up through the 'box. Downshifts also accompanied with a throttle blip. Just have to use clutch changes around town.

Lots of RT's still lined up at Park Lane, Batterea, yesterday; all with their metal replacement rod. The replacement units are arriving as we speak.

The rods would be handy for bods to get their hands on, useful if you ever want to remove the shock, even on RT's with conventional suspension. They may even fit other steeds.

Had a ride on my new modified RT - and I am still alive!

Had a ride on the RT WC I have just bought - what a cracking bike. Love the engine and handling. The suspension didn't collapse on the 10 mile ride I took it on which is a bonus, the normal sport and comfort modes did about as much as they did on my last RT (OK, bouncy, wallowy). So all good.

The central locking is a great feature as I use the top box and panniers a lot.
The auto clutch gearshift thingy is a fine gimmick if you can remember not to use the clutch, but once I stopped concentrating on it, I just used the clutch as normal, so it remains to see if I use it in real life.

The airflow and windscreen are greatly improved - much less buffeting,

I am told that that the WC RT seat is more comfortable than my 2013 RT version (which I found pretty uncomfortable). Before a splash on a Sargent or similar - any views?

Picking the bike up some time next week so very excited.

They will hold their value well. Its a pure case of supply and demand. There are no used RT's to be found as they have'nt actually been used and therefore no-one is selling them. Ive been searching for a while. I found one LE at Bristol BMW which was their ex demo.
I was looking for the san Marino in particular but of course they have discontinued that for 2015. They must have only had a small amount of that paint to discontinue so soon.

If anyone knows of a second hand SE anywhere I'm willing to travel!

Clutchless gearchanges do take some getting used to but once your brain is tuned in it's a great feature but (well in my case) it makes you ride a bit faster (hooligan).

I've got the comfort screen on mine and it is a major improvement on my previous '11 plate RT and is so much better than the K16 and GS's I had on loan.

Central locking is great and I've also managed to wire up my Givi top box to operate from it!

Seat comfort is, for me, slightly better than the old RT but loads better than K16 and GS. Latest trip was 3 hours with no stopping to a meeting which lasted 2 hours then 3 hour (stopped for fuel) trip back which produced no rear end aches or pains!

One thing I have noticed but it maybe me, is that the Road / Normal settings seem to be a bit harder tun they were before. Like I said it maybe me as it was 3 months ago that I last rode it.

!

I ordered a bike in this colour in May, but never got the bike, my new order is March 2015, as I don't want a black bike again and not keen on the mat colour, it looks like I will be having the blue and silver bike.
The dealer has said the agreement/deal we had in May will stand until next March and to carry on riding my present RT, that's why I keep going back to this dealer :thumby: (there are other dealers closer to hand)
