2014 RT's GROUNDED! DO NOT RIDE!

Before Wapping sees my last post I should add that maybe the fact that it's cracking is a good reason to reject it.

Why would you care what somebody that you don't know thinks or types ? I rejected twice in 8 months the GS LC. Now, I hope THIS ONE is a good one:green gri
Almost went for the RT :blast

It's not that I care what he thinks it's the fact that there is the possibility for a play on words within my post. Ie. "Cracking" coming apart or breaking, he is very adept at picking these up and I wanted to get in before him.

surely the issue is down to Sachs aye for sure the testing would have been done by BMW and declared fit . but production is by Sachs and the issue lays with then and their manufacturing , one of the joys of out sourcing parts is when it Fucks up All the naysayers are pounding the BMW name:rolleyes:

Its only a fucking rear shock thats possably faulty. Any one would think it was a major engine/frame defect FFS.

Oh fuck. I have a dodgy suspension unit so I'd better reject this pile of junk....FFFS..:blast

,,,,,,,,,,,and I'm guessing Sachs will not only pick up the bill for the recall but also damages for potential loss of profit/sales/goodwill etc.

Correct in principle, if not in detail. Although the Dynamic ESA shock on the WC GS is manufactured by Sachs, the one on the RT is a Marzocchi unit. I understand that the issue is a result of Marzoccchi changing the material specification for the damper rod in the rear shock, without alerting BMW to the fact. There have been 2 failures in 8,000 units and BMW have considered it necessary issue a recall on all the bikes.

Obviously not THAT important, as the mod for this section hasn't made it a sticky :augie

HINT HINT :thumb2

The perfect opportunity to upgrade the rear suspenson to a Wilbers unit, probably at BMW's (or Marzocchi's) cost?

Imagine the compo opportunity if a couple of Hollywood mega stars binned it at high speed due to catastrophic failure of the rear suspension in a high speed turn.

fuck the Hollywood mega stars what about us:rob:rob:rob

I got the call while i was packing for a trip in Ireland ….we were leaving at 530 pm ..the dealers called me at 2pm !!! but fair play to them they gave two us 13 plates models from their secondhand stock , all taxed , insured and full of fuel…. we had a great time ..

there has been as yet no official recall ! thats why its not on the VOSA site… there has been a mail to say dont ride …but not actually telling us what they are doing as of yet !!!

Will be interesting to see how long it takes bmw to get hold of 8000 re-engineered rear esa suspension units and who gets priority for the bits the 447 UK bikes, the German customers or say police bikes. FFS it is taking them months to sort out panniers for the GSA's.

How will customers feel if they get told 'sorry but it may be 6/8/10/12 weeks etc until we get the bits' will bm be happy if a customer who needs their bike gets Wilbers/ WP to sort them out a new rear shock and then bills them or rejects the bikes.

Also now realising the problem have they stopped production of the RT as they obviously will have no rear shocks for them

It's only the electronically adjustable system I believe. They can still make the standard suspension version and the poor old owner will have to turn the adjusters themselves instead of flexing a thumb.

Is it any different to the 2013 model ? I like mine and find it does make a difference on the various settings.

Yes, it's a semi-active system. Apart from the settings being linked to the riding modes (with the ability to override that..) the suspension calibrates the rate and extent of deflection up to 100 times per second and uses that plus the data from other sensors :- speed, ABS, throttle position, bank angle, to adjust the settings in something approaching real time. So, in effect, the suspension is always adjusting its settings to suit the load and road conditions. That has major benefits, not only in terms of ride quality but also the way the tyres stick to the road.

Do you work for BMW :)

Sounds like that was written for you :)
