I'm getting fed up of all this. . . I ordered a new 1200RT for delivery week 2nd June and have not heard anything apart form ambiguous speculation from BMW despite all my calls to local UK dealer. what a very strange way to do business. .

Lucky you! The only thing you should be doing is cancelling your order, then have a look at ordering one next spring. Your not likely to get much riding done this year the way things are going.
As people have already pointed out, it's a fantastic bike, and for me, there's nothing better on the market. But I'm not happy about mine depreciating whilst I'm not able to ride it.

So why aren't you taking your own advice?....full refunds are available at ALL dealerships!

Welcome to the UKGSer forum. Always nice to start with a negative post!
Might be worth giving your dealer a tinkle tomorrow as there has been some progress, a little late, granted but progress non the less.
I've been told that people waiting for delivery were not written to by BMW as we are not the official owners yet. My dealer was quite apologetic and advised that there is a letter coming to us vis the dealer to say that replacement parts are in progress and we should expect our bikes late July / early August. Now, eight weeks lost in the grand scheme of things seems not to bad, especially if we get a bit of compo!
I'm pretty sure when I'm on my 3000 mile tour in September all this fiasco will be well forgotten.

Ditto all that, except the subscription bit (cos I'm too tight to subscribe, too).
 
My RT goes back to the dealer tomorrow as the temporary struts are now in so they can remove the rear shock and get them sent back for a re-build.
 
RT back to my dealers, so picked up the GSTE loaner yesterday. Just need to run her in now.

 
The people I really feel really sorry for are the guys who currently own WC GS's who are going to see the bike's residual value plummet like a stone when BMW UK release the 500ish used loan bikes in to the UK market place :blast

If you buy something and spend your every day worrying about it's potential residual value should you decide to sell it, then you need your head examined.
Around 25 years ago, my frind Roy bought a Lada Samara. An aquaintance of his was the local Ford Dealer, who told him he was mad, because the Lada Samara would have no residual value whatsoever after 3 years.
Roy agreed with him, and asked him how much his offering, a Ford Fiesta would be worth in 3 years, with 150,000 miles on it. Ford dealer had to agree, nothing. So Roy asked him again to justify his claim of how much better off he would be if he bought the much more expensive Fiesta. Dealer gave up at this point.

I think Nice n Fat is explaining a completely artificial situation Myke, when an 'extra 500 GS LC TE's are flooded into the market this autumn, so this is bound to have an effect on the GS LC TE's already out there being ridden

The Lada and Fiesta example is completely irrelevant as this isn't a normal situation

Great for a buyer, though;)
 
There won't be 500 R1200GSs flooding the market.

Not all new RT riders have taken up the option of a loan bike.
Not all loan bikes are R1200GSs, a large number may be, but there are GTs, 700GSs, 800GSs, and probably other models in the mix.
Will the additional bikes affect the values of the relevant models? Maybe, maybe not, if it does I don't think it'll be by much and it will only be for the short term IMHO.

I don't worry about it at all ........ that's why I still ride around on an 8 year old 1200 GSA :augie

Not gonna happen like that; I asked our lot what kind of deal they'd be able to do on our (GSLC) loan bike and the response was something just short of the full list price (and even then, only once the bikes can be sold - which isn't until they're 3 months old anyway).

So afaik, current GSLC owners can rest easy.
 
I was at Bahnstormers in Maidenhead a few weeks back and they were discounting brand new GS TE's with immediate delivery

Just had a mate been quoted £5k to change from his 4000 mile old June 2013 GS TE to a new TE spec GSA. Dealer said the RT loan bike situation was and would have an effect on used GS prices

Like I said.... I'm unaffected by it all as I don't own one

If you had a R12RT, would you really take a F700GS as a loaner................get real:rolleyes:

Most dealers have supplied all 12GS's and a few GTL's and that's the pattern in the UK
