2014 RT's GROUNDED! DO NOT RIDE!

Still waiting for mine, now having to go on my hols on my old trusty stead, and was so looking forward to the new bike :(

really? mine was ready almost 2 weeks ago now.

have they given you a date at least?

The dealer said the parts were due in last week, that didnt happen and are now expected some time this week, also heard that from another dealer. Oh hum, cant do anything about it, and perhaps better to get to know the bike before I take it on my hols

That's nonsense. I have just bought an RT that has been fixed. Tell them to stop messing you around.

Thats shite then....:(

My dealer had 14 x RT's to fix, and they're all done now (Mine was the first:clap).

Full Circle!

After mega disappointment over the summer with the whole suspension debacle I finally bought a Quartz Blue RT LE with all the bits then did a 2700 mile tour of Germany with my mate, also on a RT LE.

Here is a 8 minute video celebrating the positives of the RT. Turn it up and enjoy!

Brilliant ! Most bike videos are crap but yours is outstanding. Great photography and music. Bikes weren't bad either. :beerjug:

one of the best ive seen..if that doesnt give you inspiration and motivation to get on ya bike and travel then nothing will!! top job big dave:aidan

You know what, I'd love to but I genuinely worried I'll have an issue on my older RT. Sad isn't it, bought to tour, too worried to ride it after the issues. Last Beemer Ill have.

You mustn't think like that. I have had 3 RTs and they are reliable and the best touring bikes. I did 40000 miles on my 1150RT and it was truly knackered at 79,000 miles when I finally moved it on (lack of proper maintenance on my part if truth be told). But just before I did I took it 1500 miles round Europe in the rain:-( never missed a beat. Felt very disloyal trading it in. The bikes are bullet proof and will rarely let you down.

So a couple of points about the suspension issue:

As far as I can search in this forum, there is not one post from someone who has an issue with their suspension. I asked BMW North Oxford if they had seen a failed bike or heard of one, and as far as they were aware there had not been a single suspension failure anywhere in the world - it was a precautionary recall.

Secondly the part that has been replaced is specific to the 2014 WC RT with the ESA. This is not the same part as found on the GS variants or any earlier RT even with ESA.

Go and do a trip with some mates or with one of the BMW tours or similar, it is such fun, very social and a blast. Just do it! You have the best bike ever sat there waiting to go. Just add petrol.

Happy biking!

Sad indeed, any mode of transport can let you down but if you let the worry put you off your going to miss out on one of life's great pleasures.

Is it me or does the bike look like an owl from the front with those LED lights.

So, with the RT suspension issue a distant memory (for some), are there any affected RT owners out there still awaiting resolution, be it compensation, order cancellation payment etc? or is everyone now sorted?

all sorted for me , thankyou …i dont know off anyone who is still outstanding and issues with up this part of the country

Talking to a lad at Selby today. he had a 12 plate R1200RT same as mine, He had an LC-RT and has gone back to a proper RT. New ones obviously aren't universally liked.

A sweeping statement - I love my new RT and MSN voted it best tourer again!
