In need of some help and advice please....

My front (alloy, not spoked) wheel on my 2015, 5500 mile GS is showing surface corrosion - and spreading!

Can I ask if anyone on the forum has experience and what they did - i.e. report to BMW. left it, got the wheel refinished?

Clearly it looks unsightly but I wonder if I need to be worried about the integrity of the wheel longer term.

Thanks in advance.

Any Pix? Did you have a replacement front tyre? If so, was the rim damaged at the same time. If this was the start of the corrosion, you will have a hard time convincing BMW of a faulty wheel.

stonehenge - no pics with me. The corrosion is not limited to the rim, in fact most of it is around outer hub if that makesense. I have indeed just had new tyres, supplied and fitted by BMW. I've asked if they noted the corrosion and their thoughts on the matter - no response as yet! I do agree - might be a tough call to get a replacement given the age.

Thanks.

Sounds faulty to me - but outside of the main warranty. Good luck ;)

The original coating probably ought to last longer than 3 years, but I had my Honda VFR ones powder coated at about the same age when the original black began to look shabby. The bike is just coming up to 20 years old now and the powder coat is still as good as ever. You could hang on, but you'll only need to do them once so perhaps it's easier just to do a good job now and enjoy the results for longer.
