2015 models announced

BMW are just catching up with Harley then. I had key less ignition on my fat bob very good I thought it was too, just have the key in your pocket and away you go.
If you were to far away from the bike the immobiliser would kick in so a thief wouldn't get far if you left it running, and then it got stolen.

Also you can have just one bunch of keys as you won't be scratching your top yokes anymore.

Flywheel and keyless

Flywheel changes will be welcome off road - I ride a twin cam GS which bumbles along great off road and very difficult to stall - due to the heavier cranks inertia - having ridden the new GS a few times off road it's the one thing that is not better in my view.

Keyless is great - too a point

Both my last cars have had it and I thought it was great until the wife dropped me off at the train station in my car but I forgot to give her the key which was in my pocket and she didn't realise until she stopped at the petrol station to get fuel and turned off the engine - result one irate wife on the phone and me halfway to london - oops
However my latest car does tell you that the key is out of range I guess to combat this

If it's like the Ducati system, the bike won't start if the key isn't in range BUT once started it runs until switched off, regardless of where the key is. The dash flashes a message if the key is out of range.

Not ideal for security...

Same, with both my car and my Harley, once started it will 'not' cut out when out of range as the legal damages would be catastrophic if someone died

What are the advantages of key-less ignition? I can see a major disadvantage as above how is this balanced by advantages?

What is this "off road" business ? :tarka

Is that we're you ride it up the curb outside the chippy because mine copes just fine with that.

It is the latest absurd electronic gizmo that no one needs but will flock to the dealers to be blinded by. A new piece of bling that will most likely just cause problems. Advantages? It keeps sales up for BMW. Obviously they will need to come up with another ridiculous little piece of complexity next year so the suckers keep skipping through the doors eagerly waiting in line to hand over a large deposit to be told "Oh sorry sir, there's a six month waiting list for these models, that is how exclusive they are. However, you obviously have exemplary taste sir so I am sure you won't mind the wait". :aidan

This has to be unbelievable, your wife put fuel in your car. Would never happen in my house

It sould allow scumy fucker to ride off, then once he hits 80mph lock the front wheel and send cuntuse over the bars. New bike for you , no tea leaf for the rest of us .

Isn't the "new" GS engine just a way of standardising it with the GSA. One engine, one production line - either bike
If the engine is the most expensive and complex component it would make financial sense and as Henry Ford said - yes we have one in black
