2015 R1200 GSA ESA Preload

When I first bought my 1200GSA, my mate had had he's for a while. I rode straight to his house to show him. As I pulled up, he said "What do you think of the suspension" ?
I said its great, He then said "Have you notice it adjust when stationary"? I hadn't at that point, but only a short while later , whilst sat at some lights, It did it. Slight drop in height, then straight back up again. And my Triple black GSA after that did exactly the same. It wasn't extrusive, or that noticeable, but it did it. My dealer said its simply calibrating.
100% Normal.

Read my previous post your dealer is talking out of their arse, per BMW UK Technical it is NOT supposed to drop of its own accord when you stop it is symptomatic of a fault not of a super dooper esa recalibration system

Completely normal. As said, two of my previous GSA's did it. My 18 on auto doesn't as its being adjusted 100 times a second. the older ones do it when stationary for a short while. its normal, .....Move along....
I bet Neil W hasn't even got ESA :D
But has lots to say about it .....

Not any fucking more I haven't as on my last esa bike in 35 months and 14,000 miles it had x2 front shocks , x1 rear, over 20 ecu esa updates and for 2 months was being run by the dealer around with factory telemetric equipment fitted beaming suspension data directly back to the bmw factory. I have spoken at length to dealer, bmw technical etcso know you are talking out of your arse

Ive not had any issues with ESA, or my new super dooper auto ESA, love it.....
Just as I suspected, you dont have it......... :D
The suspension calibration is completely normal. Its doing its stuff, and clever it is too.
I wonder why you feel the need to use such foul language ? Do you want shiny new auto ESA. :green gri
Go seek some anger management qualifications. As your anger will be going up and down just the same as an ESA unit re calibrating itself :thumb

I agree with Neil W, as mine kept 'losing' its two-up setting during rides with swmbo on the back. I then had to scroll through the settings to get it to 'rise' again. This happens 3-4 times on a Euro tour last summer. Dealer updated, recalibrated, whatever that means??? But still happened again. So new ESA under warranty - 2016 GSA, 9000 miles. During the chat with the dealer, he absolutely confirmed to me that dropping the setting is not normal. Once in two-person mode, it should stay there there until reset to a different mode.

If I was the OP I would take it back to the dealer and challenge their findings and get it replaced. Since having mine done, no further issues on two trips so far.....:thumby:

My '14 bike did it a few times before the shock preload failed electronically at 12,00mls.
My '17 did not do it before going the same way at 6,000mls.
Both bikes still handled ok solo as the damping still worked up to the point at which I started grinding the side stand and pegs.
The dealers still said it was within parameters until I put alongside a new one and got them measure the seat height, over an inch different in seat height, as I am only 5'6" it is as big difference as to how much foot I can get on the ground.
Both done under warranty.
