So......3000 miles in on factory supplied Metzeler Tourance Next tyres and about to do a 3000 mile Euro trip. Rear already squaring off and not looking very confidence inspiring for the Alps. Just found that the 'Next' range are now made in China (versus Germany) and generally giving very poor mileage and performance compared to the old faithful German made Tourance (of which I had many for years and years). Apparently, the 2 best road tyre options for the GS (with no off-roading likely) are either:

1. Bridgstone A41 (Japan made) £255 incl for a pair fitted

2. Continental Trail Attack 2 (Germany made) £281 for a pair fitted

Irrespective of the £30 price difference, what are your road experiences of these tyres (mileage, grip, wet, general confidence)?

Apologies if this question has already been comprehensively covered. Keen to see what the word on the street is on these tyres (plus the original Tourance Nexts) for road riding.

Many thanks

Cant comment on the Bridgstones as its not my brand of choice.
Cont Trail Attack 2 .. brilliant tyre for me , great grip , feel makes the bike tight , light and laser line guided.
Milage not sure as don't care but would say in the uk around 4 to 5 k for a set , touring where I ride , Spain twisty back roads less than 2k for the front but the rear will still do around 4 k mark so it works 2 to 1 rear.

I've just had the A41s fitted to my bike (Anakee 3s from new, then Bstone A40s), only done about 600km, but happy so far. Temps are up to 27C here and they seem to be coping OK. Had some rain yesterday, and good there to.

Have a little read through this thread, as for the Trail Attack 2 my mate has them on, he finds them to loud and said he does not like them much, I have Anakee 3,s came on the bike like them a lot, others do not, it like a plate of cheese this tyre question, stilton or cheddar.

Many thanks Smogbob. It really is isn't it! I could understand if we were talking road versus off road or commuting / motorway versus 'alpine touring' but it is amazing how differing views are on tyre choices for pure road use. I will read the article. Many thanks. What do you have on yours?!

Thanks Hatzyian. I didn't know the Anakees were fitted to the GS (thought is was the Adventure stock tyre) but I also found them good on my previous Adventure. Sounds like the A41s are getting good feedback too.

Thanks Stick. That's a nice clear recommendation for the Cont TA 2 then. I've never had them, but had lots of Bridgstones in the past.....which were always good on mileage too. I'm genuinely surprised by your mileages on those tyres though. 2k for a front?! I have honestly never seen that before and I am quite a spirited mountain passes rider! :-)

I have Anakee 3,s quite happy with them at the moment but bike is new and only done 1500 kms so cannot say how they will wear, but road wise in the German black forest they do their job well, and mostly 2 up............

Metzler roadtec 01.....excellant grip, pure road-only tyre.... FAR better than the Annakee3’s that were on my GS before ....
.but tyres are a very subjective item.....
Good luck with finding a set you like

For road only and very “spirited riding” my friend (bike shop owner) recommends Michelin Road.

Pirelli Scorpion Trail 2. All the tyre you will ever need for tarmac. Performs great to the edges when pushed hard at the Nurburgring. Thr RoadTec01 or Conti RA3 may be stickier in extremis, but they carry a significant price premium. I can’t outride the Pirellis, so they will do me just fine.

Posted weekend, Bridgstone (A40's) very very noisy, worse than A3's!

It does sound low but last year shipped the bikes to Barcelona and did around 1800 mile acroos the mountains , but factor in all day hard riding plus hot roads and grippy surface it soon takes the outside edge off, middle was fine , but sides shot.
My riding mate only got 1500 out of his rear until the sides had gone ( almost to the canvas) but he was riding a v twin with Road techs on . Remember the BM is heavy so you push it hard all day on the brakes it soon takes the front out , you know how hard when the brakes start to fail lol...
Oh and before some may comment , I'm not getting my balls out just telling it is how it is for me.

Just Changed my front Anakee 3 at 8,000 miles , I feel ashamed !
