first of the above bikes is in local dealers on 24th feb. I am in the notion of ordering one to replace my '14 TE . As im only 5'7 i was thinking of going for the lower suspension BMW offers. Has anyone ever had this done or had any experience with a bike that has been lowered. My bike now is standard and no problems, but would be more confident if slightly lower. (dont want to use lower seat as they are usually uncomfortable doing big miles.

I would go for the standard one pal. Lowered will most probably affect re-sale ( though I am only surmising )- I am 5.8 and had an adventure- was absolutely fine once I nailed the technique.

Though isnt the rallye actually higher than the normal GS? If so, go for one of them, unless you are doing big miles off road that`ll be fine- and to be honest would cope well with that too.

Morning , I have the standard LC TB , before that I had similar and I'm 6 foot tall, to cut a long story short I can offer the following.

Due to my earlier bike being under warrentee work I was booked to go on a 2 week trip to Spain, I had no bike , BMW gave me a lone bike , a 1200LC GS just run in.
Now to my horror it was the lowered frame but I was stuck , Spain with it or no holiday.
The lowered bike was great , no issues , handled the same as my other , bike .
I did have to run the suspension in two up to make the bike feel the same as mine. Again it was fine .
I would if you can steer away from a lowered seat as you seem to disappear into the bike and sit like a crazy frog.
The lowered frame is by far the best option as you still have the standard ( comfy seat) and you can still run it high or low .
Hope this helps

you can add sport suspension which increases ride height by 20mm, but thats only for serious off roading.

i like the look of the rallye and thats only reason i would be changing. But if it was lower i would be a bit more confident. Not sure either if lowering affects the 2nd resale value

The Rallye is the tallest GS / GSA they do. It has the taller GSA suspension plus the Rallye seat, which sits best in the High setting, though you can lower down but it will slope toward the tank slightly. GSA height with the Rallye seat is 910mm i think.

i got the spec sent and its same as standard GS height, but if you want you can add sports suspension option for £290 which adds 20mm to seat height to 890mm

Be aware that the new bikes have self-levelling suspension - so take one for a ride to see what it is like in action; such as at Traffic Lights.

cant see self levelling being an issue as it only works with the load apparently

Sat on one on Saturday at Lyon

Tiny screen, rally seat is very hard and 1 person only, sticker on the handlebars says max speed 160kmh on knobblies :green gri

If you're going off road lots OK, but if not I'd go for a standard GS or GSA

I think it is the same height as the standard seat, but must be in high setting not low. The GSA is stated as 890 / 910 mm which i believe is the difference between H/L settings on the seat? I like the rally seat and use it in the lower setting by taking the rear rubbers off the rear mount. If i run it in the high setting the bike is a bit high for me.

Nothing wrong with the low chassis bike mate, I've had a couple. Never had a problem with the re sale either.

I liked the lower one more that the standard, although its just personal preference I guess

I had one and it was fine, rode just like a standard bike. There's lots of buyers wanting low s/hand versions come resell time too.

As to the lower bike the suspension is lowered by 20mm or 30mm can't remember which now, and the other 20 or 30m is from the lower seat, giving 50m total. The low seat for me was fine, no different to the standard seat on my prev GS imho.

+1 on this.

Mines a lowered model (I'm 5'9" 31"inside leg). Getting both feet down when the wife is on board gives a secure feel to proceedings. I haven't once regretted choosing the low model.

When you start the bike with MrsA on board you feel the suspension pump up to suit, which raises the bike a bit anyway. My 10p.

Going to order the lowered rallye sport with upgraded package. Works out at 16.4k but getting a good deal straight in my opinion.

Price is 16.4k by the book. But i aint paying that amount and getting a good discount imo.
