2018 KTM 790 Adventure

Is that all?!
The amount of plastic making the bike very wide low down is a concern, the bike is funerable to impact if used on any terrain other than Starbucks car park. Whoever designed the fuel tanks needs their head read.
Many riders are making the noise that this will be the ultimate TET bike.... yeah right! One drop, one rock or tree stump, and you're going home early. The bike must be as wide as a 1200GS low down, which is another shite TET bike....

Don't mean to be offensive Timpo, but how about waiting until people have ridden the thing and see how they get on? It seems you already know it won't go offroad and that if you do you'll struggle as much as when on a GS (Pretty sure people use GS's to take on the TET). Maybe you just 'know' this stuff. Why not call KTM and see if you can join their design team? I'd be happy to look at what you come up with.

Every bike you get on has limits. You have to ride within those limits....be it the TET or a Starbucks car park.

For me: is it overpriced? Yes and its a fact I can't change. Will I get further on one than the 1090R (£11.5k at the time) I nearly bought early this year? I suspect so....Will wait and see. What I'm after is a comfortable twin (I don't want a single, been there done that) that can open up offroad routes I could only reach currently by putting the Freeride in the van. Should be perfect and I reckon I won't be the only one who thinks so.

How much is your Akra end can? I’ll bet by the time you’ve added that, the power parts seats & crash bars, there’s the best part of £1500. Then there’s the luggage........

I’ll pay about £650 for the Akra and £180 for the Bumot pannier frames to fit my Xtremada panniers.

So that’s under £11k in total .....

Or annual. It’s just a marketing ploy to make you think the service intervals are long, but unless you’re actually doing 10k miles per year, it’ll need a service once a year either way.
All major brands do it
Minimum one service a year

Only one solution

Ride more;)

It’s not an S. There is the 790 Adventure and then the 790 Adventure R.

The standard bike has lower two piece seat etc ,two colour options :

But if you is a midget the standard seat also fits the R to bring it down to 850mm

Thanx for the sum up
I was wondering about that.

dealer just confirmed prices 11,099 and 11,999 for the R

Too expensive in comparison to the 790 Duke KTM have just shot themselves in the foot imho if that price is correct

Agreed - looks expensive compared to the latest 850GS's although no idea how the spec compares.

Yeah, but you've already got the luggage and get the VAT off.

So, to us mere mortals, the bike is £12k, plus around £800 for the Akra, plus somewhere around £700 for luggage/ frames/ locks/ bags etc. Obviously it'd be cheaper if strapping soft luggage on, but you get my gist. ;)

But you have no interest in such a bike anyway,so it’s not an issue.

£12,845 for the beemer with spec.

However, you have just made me realize that the £11,999 KTM won't include quick shifter or cruise. Not sure what that would cost on top. Eeeek!

Edit: The Duke has blipper/shifter inc. No cruise control though. I can't find a bike that has it as an optional extra.....either inc or not available.

What makes you think that? The doctors have told me there's nothing more they can do for my back now, so a smaller lighter bike may be the way forward.

I'll be looking at all sorts over the next few weeks.

But the 850 looks like a dogs dinner

:D

I agree. It's a very odd looking bike that's probably quite competent but best part of £13k with non-adjustable forks?? The killer with the Beemer will be when you decide to drop it and break something. Then you'll pay biggly.

Just heard KTM said* at NEC that the 790R was expensive as a result of the high quality suspension fitted, which is the most expensive they have fitted to any road bike including the active electronic stuff.

*Told journey Martin Fitzgibbons of Ride.

WP XPlor???

Ask that on the KTM forum

EXC riders are dumping it for the older OC or CC forks and getting those set up properly

Compression in one leg and Rebound in the other - never a good option for off-road

Folk seem to be getting very ‘hot up’ about the cost and the specs and no doubt add on’s this bike will receive.

As timpo has said it has been quoted as the ultimate TeT bike potentially. Maybe will be.

But as has been said many times before, buy a bike that can do the job and spend the rest on the trip.

If folk want the new model and all it comes with, then why not, fuel tank a bit different-why not. Suspension meant to be the latest ‘dogs bollocks’- why not.

After all without constant development we would have nothing to debate about.

Money is made after all to be spent.

Saw it was 12 k at the show today , fools will queue and spend the dosh , I don’t buy the 3 grands worth of suspension internals at all.
What a shame

Building new factories in China does not come cheap you know ;)
