2018 KTM 790 Adventure

The Pirelli Scorpion STRs look very road bias. Have you had them in mud and large loose rocks/pebbles ?

Nope.
I’ve only had them fitted to my ATAS before the 790R and the ATAS has only been used locally and in Brittany,so nothing more than gravel tracks and a bit of mud. They seemed very good. The tread is more blocky than the TA2s.
I did the Honda Adventure Centre course on their AT in 2017 and I think their bikes were on Karoos.
I was amazed what we rode up and down and it was very muddy and I’m crap off-road anyway.
For my riding mainly on road and stuff like Espinama to Sotres trails, the STRs will be perfect.I’ll keep the Karoos for gnarlier stuff if I ever get the chance to do some TET and hopefully the TAT soonish.

If you need more info I can recommend JohnnyHalfEmpty-he know every fink and is a riding god/boring troll*

*Can’t remember which

Surely that second photo has been airbrushed. The spokes on the rear are clear and the dust is blurred. His left leg or the side stand surely... either that or the photo is the split second before it drops

I think that's called a long lens & large aperture (depth of field). Has Giles been giving you lessons?

So remind us all wtf has a 790 got to do with the Dakar? :D

He’s riding in Morocco which has more to do with the Dakar than the Dakar which has become a refugee shunted from country to country ...

Accepting the fact that MCN tend to be gushing about new tests the 790R does sound great. Cracking place to test it round there, makes me want to go back, more so if KTM would lend me a 790 as well.

Would I contemplate selling the 1290 for one, hmm, probably not. Need to test one.

Wow, after that write up, what is not to like................so should I put it back on the maybe list.

Just popped into Fowler's to have a look, very nice. What I didn't expect was that I now prefer the size and quirkiness of the non R bike. Will have to have a test ride.

Found a large loose rock and the bike coped amazingly well.....

You should call Waitrose and tell them their car park has a rock lying around.

The wing mirrors need to be binned on these bikes. What were they thinking! Parts bin I suppose. I've seen some 690SM one fitted somewhere and they look better but wouldn't handle off road. Those ones on a RAM mount seem favourite at the moment.

The standard mirrors aren’t great but those RAM jobbies look utterly ridiculous IMHO.

I prefer these

Shame they are made by Touratwat

Not great but they fold in super easily when you go to Waitrose
