Hi guys

I'm new on here as a poster but have a problem that maybe you know how to solve.
I got my GS in Setember 2019 - its the latest model with TFT screen and bluetooth connectivuity to the BMW APP and in helmet speakers.

Ever since setting up the bike i have had issues with the bike losing the connection with the APP (pairing lost) and also, sometimes, with poor playback of music from my iphone.
BMW have had the bike 2 times for software updates but some problems persist.
To make it worse the recent APP update messed up the ride recording system.

Anyway, the worst problem i have at the moment is breaks in the music playback - short breaks (around 1 second maybe) - then the music resumes. Its almost as though the blue tooth cant keep up with the data flow or is busy doing something else......

Has anybody else had this and know how to fix it ???

Thanks for your help

Hi the recording problem with the Bmw app is usually due to map updates check to see if they need updates.
Regarding connectivity it’s all about how you are connecting to the TFT, usually phone first followed by headset. if you have the navigator use second phone pairing to the navigator, my headset is a Sena 20s evo and all works well. What make is your headset..

Hi

Thanks for the comments - just updating maps now and will test when the weather gets better

I am using the Cardo Freecom 4 and I use the APP for navigation will try setting up again when everything is updated.

By navigator you mean the BMW navigation system ??

Make sure you don't have the phone connected directly with the headset. Both should be connected to the TFT then that controls the link.

Yes the navigator sat nav, before re pairing delete all connections in the tft, phone and cardo. You will then start from scratch

There are loads of threads on here about TFT losing connections - make sure you have the latest software as it seems to cure most peoples problems, certainly did mine.

I think you'll find it is 022_005_041

i have the same issue sometimes.
I have noticed that if i keep my iphone in my pocket/top box its worse than being in the phone holder near to the TFT screen.

Always place phone in pocket or a holder, never inside box.

Pair phone to freedom.
Pair phone to TFT.
Pair freedom to nav vi. (2nd channel)optional.

And I find phone connection to bike more reliable if the phone is in my left trouser pocket rather than my right, or the jacket front pocket works ok.

I have currently paired my phone with my Nav6 and Packtalk, and the Nav6 with the Packtalk, for music from the SD card in the Nav6, Nav instructions from the Nav6 and phone with the phone. If I don’t have the Nav6 on the bike, the phone will work direct with the helmet.

I’m not using the tft for the phone, which is a shame.

Epic faffing about for something which should work reliably each and every time you ride.

Thanks to everyone for their comments

no need to delete all the pairing on the bike - it had lost all the info again !!!!

Anyway - made all the connections and got things working

Now I need to test it in the real world when the rain and snow stop ..............

I have one textile jacket, the reflective stuff works like a faraday cage...
also on some devices (interphone FX series) needed firmware updates to cope with BMW and KTM bikes
don't forget if using an apple they have no idea how BT is supposed to work and write randomware - hence the 5 updates on iOS14 already

anyone know if the base nav on the TFT of the latest bike is a firmware update on old bikes or different hardware?

one thing to check is the connected app needs to be set to "always" use you're location not just when your using the app etc, this fixed the stop start ride recordings for me.
this is accessible in the phones settings for the app etc.

I had a long running argument with BMW over this. They tried to fob me off with all kinds of excuses like my phone being in my pocket could interfere. What they didn't count on is my tech background and I argued that in this day and age, the phone being within the vicinity of the bike should make little difference, although I do always carry it in the inside pocket of my jacket so almost line of sight to the bike.

My issue was more the pairing/forgetting issue. It spent WAY too long being diagnosed by the dealer (not their fault) and in the end once I got the 022_005_041 update as mentioned above that problem is completely gone.

Also as said the BMW Connected app needs to be allowed to use your location always otherwise it can be inconsistent. Also it's best to at least open the app before a ride just to make sure it's running. I've been testing the Beta versions of their app for them over the last couple of months and journey recording hasn't really been an issue for me, at least with the latest TFT update.

I can't really comment on the audio stuff as I don't have a headset yet.

I had problems connecting my headset to TFT and nav6.
Was told the problem was that I was wearing a crash helmet and the carbon fibre interfered with the bluetooth connection.
A crash helmet on a motorcycle who would of thought of that

I have BMW carbon fibre helmet and a BMW comms system, so you might of thought they would have checked that it all worked together before selling them!
