2020 Overtrouser options

Have gone back through this thread looking for options to solve my overtrouser dilemma. Since March I have been staying away from trains and cars and doing a weekly 400 mile round trip to London, and have got all the gear working to my liking as we head into winter, with the exception of the overtrouser department.
My issue is that when I get to London I usually have to go to client premises where it is not feasible to change from fitted overtrousers to jeans or trousers.
I'd like some overtrousers that are warm, have protective inserts in knees and hips, are totally waterproof, and yet will fit easily over normal day wear. The latter is the key.
I have tried skiing salopettes and they are certainly warm, but not waterproof and offer little protection. I've tried waterproof bike jeans (Rokker) with all the armour and with normal waterproof overtrousers, but they are not warm enough.
Suggestions welcome.

Aerostich perhaps...or end up wearing 3 layers...jeans-work trousers/salopettes/cheap ex army goretex overtrousers?

Aerostich not that warm, and unfortunately every item of gear I have bought from them in the past has been supplied in either the wrong size or the wrong colour.
The jeans/salopettes/army goretex combo ticks most boxes except the protective/armour one.

Why couldn't you arrive 10 minutes early and use a loo to change trousers?

I have a set of BMW waterproof over trousers that zip all the way up the sides and they have armour and been 100% waterproof, although when using them a lot I did wash them once a month with tech wash and then gave them a spray over with fabsil,

for warm a set of this sort of thing is ideal, cheap, zip up leg so easy to wear over normal clothes. But to be honest any zip or Velcro sided over trousers with a set of the quilted inner over trousers and your done

just a quick look on Ebay brings up all kinds of stuff, if this is for general commuter wear then, any half decent kit can be made more waterproof with any DWR like fabsil how often you have to reproof depends on use and road conditions

I have two different size pairs of Heine Gerik removable liner sheltex armoured trousers, and if I need to wear jeans,trousers or just more thermals underneath I just wear the larger pair with or without liners depending on the season, simples or am I missing something.

merino base layer , fleece trousers and jacket , electric suit top and bottom , riding gear ( you already have some ) 1 piece oversuit .

gloves with a proper cuff , not stuff that stops at you wrist.

if you don't know . keep the water out , keep the wind out , and you will be dry and warm.

if rain gets past the oversuit , it then has to get past your riding gear.

i went out with the boys from the Gnarley Bar ,in the pissing rain, they all wear 2 lots of rain gear ,

they were dry , i was so wet , my gortex boots were half full when we finished the day.

Sometimes it does feel like the unicorn quest, but I do appreciate the input.
I'm sure someone on this forum will have the same requirements and there will be a solution.
Regrettably the locations for the work I do often do not provide the comfort of a dry (ish) toilet, although I have a lifetime habit of arriving early.

No Idea, went into a dealers that was closing (a while ago) they had a pair of over trousers, hip and knee armour, black cordura type material, sombodys TEX (not gore I dont think) thin lining and zip up the side legs, has a bmw logo on but cant find a label with the name of the model, to be honest though it really dont matter they are just a set of zip up leg over trousers, any pair of zip ups and a zip up thermal and the job is done. I was in same sitution, need stuff to just zip off, no changing out of one thing into another, no taking off a base layer, no taking boots off and then trousers etc etc, zip off job done ready for work is what I bought mine for.


I cant seem them in the current line up but similar to the ones posted earlier or these Spidi ones

One pair is part of a second hand Tuareg suit I bought from somebody on here and the other pair I got from the NEC show a couple of years ago off the sale rail and about two inches bigger in the waist, both sheltex so not the top quality stuff and I don’t have to wear it daily.

I have a pair of these and they are nicely made, come with knee armour with the option to add hip armour (which you would probably have on another pair of trousers. They do not have any insulation though and I do fear that you will struggle to find such an over trouser that it properly waterproof and thermal. I'm lucky in that my commute is a short one. These trousers are completely windproof though.

They are designed for marine environment so not really motorcycle gear so offers nothing in protection but they will keep you dry.


They arent that cheap but you may find cheaper if you shop around if this is the sort of thing your after.

Not cheap, even at sale price, though may get cheaper elsewhere this week with Black Lives Friday etc.....
They’re designed to be worn over trousers,hence the name.
Ask Nutty what they’re like for quality etc.He bought some as didn’t realise they were meant to be worn over something then sent them back when he realised they were too baggy.But he should know how warm they feel,etc.

BMW coverall suit.

I use one over my ‘City suit’ so it would be fine over jeans / trousers. Layer up to keep your core warm or use an electric vest.

Have you considered a set of proper bike thermal type long johns combined with armoured kevlar denim jeans and then a pair of cheap waterproof over trousers ( the type that have full length zips on the side of the legs )

Depending on budget, as Arsey mentioned, the Rukka Overpass are exactly what you need. Plenty of room to fit over clothing, proper D30 armour, and fully waterproof. It’s softer than most of their kit, so much more comfortable. Similar in feel to the BMW Rallye suits, if you’ve ever tried one of those. Loads of venting, and it can be worn on its own, if you layer up.

That's exactly what I've been using, but it's just not quite warm enough over the 200 miles. Hands, body, head, feet are all sorted with the kit I have; I just need to get the leg department sorted. Am taking a look at the ideas offered up here and have some good clues. A lot of the suggestions here are for waterproof overtrousers but of the unlined variety, so they solve the keeping dry issue but not the getting cold one.

I should add that I am particularly averse to getting cold but I can take all the heat that can be thrown at me.
