2021 1290S

Checking mine

They've changed the side stand foot so my larger foot plate add on doesn't fit

How have the dealers fitted your rear number plate? I've got 4 ugly KTM style bolts holding mine on. They've changed the way it fixes from the 17.

The indicator button is very poor indeed. When the last bike was perfect, how could they possibly screw that up!!?

One other thing. You can electronically lower the bike. There are settings High/Standard/Low/ 0-100%. Putting the bike in sport mode and the 'Low' makes for a very aggressive stance - very flickable.

Pick mine up on Friday, spent a few hours reading reviews and watching YouTube videos to ‘find’ any common issues. The Petcock problem seems to happen fairly often, poor dealer PDI. The indicator cancellation is also commonly mentioned, I noticed it on the test bike. Seems to be the same on every bike, so I’m hopeful KTM will sort it out in time. The seat dropping from high also seems to be mentioned a lot, so again hoping KTM will sort out a fix. Still loved the test ride and looking forward to Friday.

Petcock not opened by the dealer on one side, effectively halving the range. Fuel gauge shows remaking fuel but it’s no accessible. Simple fix, just open the Petcock.

Thanks for that I was thinking something needed turning on to take the fuel out of the tank i could hear it swishing when i shook the bike but nothing visible in top tank! It was like a reckon work out pushing it 3/4 mile to a safe lay-by i was in a national hazards on wobbly wobbling out of gas! FFS off back to Judd Racing today hope they fix it

Yeah the stupid indicator its bloody dangerous you wink left and then turn then a another left but your not turning others think you are so invites them to pull out in front of you. Make some far less happy inducing! Needs sorting the new 890 KTM i rode last week had fantastic switch gear worked a treat. Im looking for bar risers up and back a tad any suggestions black if poss.

They have usually got three bolt holes for forward/back. If so you just need the riser inserts that, again, ought to fit if they've not changed that too!

Indicator. I found that if I let my thumb dwell on the button for a second as I pressed it, it seemed to OFF better. It's pretty rubbish really but it wouldn't put me off buying the bike thats for sure...too many positives going on

I got some of the inserts for my last 1290 Derek. Spacers really. Then the bolt holes are in the top yoke for forwards/backwards. I'll take a look for you, be surprised if they've changed the design with this.

Edit:

They've changed the design. Single bolt hole.

The mounts are already angled back to the rider so you just need a pair of these spacers - or buy taller mounts like in your pic above. These spacers are 1" and made a big difference touring....more upright body position obvs.

OK thanks I was asking KTM they were getting back to me but no news yet..

So I can report that I was talking today with a UK KTM mgr and he assured me the 2021 seats were being re designed and that the faults re dropping from High to low would be rectified ASAP bearing in mind the seat has to go through CE and safety approvals etc

And yes I did throw back at hime how the fcuk did this seat pass LOL
I made him aware of the switchgear indicator that is so hard to cancel whilst riding he said he would look into it.
He also confirmed the hill hold was only uphill and not down hill a bit like my 2115 BMW GS where a sBMW no its uphill and down and auto if you wish.
I got my Zumo XT Sat Nav installed onto the KTM Sat Nav bracket wobbles and vibrates a bit and I do miss the BMW iWheel but time will tell.
I got may repair done that was not a Pet Cock problem apparently the fuel load parameters were reset an dit was fine on the ride home I will see what bike get down to 80miles but this time i will b close to a Petrol station!

I spoke to dealer about seat dropped today. Says they're working on a work-around. That doesn't sound like a design re-think to me. Mentioned the indicator. I think this is worse than the seat really.

Did you say it's possible to lower the foot pegs? Did I read that?

The guy spoke to works for KTM he gave me the impression its a complete new style seat or fitting wise coming up a she said it ha dot go for CE approval etc and safety checks I asked him what went wrong then with the first style! RE_ Footpegs yes low and high see page 74 section 8 ergonomics...

RE indicator the KTM man showed me you have to push it back to bars but sort of once then a final push and it clicks and it off i got it working 90% on ride home.

Read the manual? Are you new to KTM?

I've had a good look at the seat dropping issue. Design engineer needs changing as it's really poor.

Here is my temp fix but it would last forever. Two pilot holes, two screws. Done.

Shouldn't this be a safety recall? Hammering round a corner and the seat goes could have dire consequences.

Looks like I’m one of the lucky ones, 100 miles yesterday after collecting the bike mid-afternoon and the seat didn’t move. Dealer advised the seat would be replaced in due course as KTM are aware of the problem and working on new catch design. Zip ties were recommended as a temporary fix.

Asked dealer re switch gear indicators being a fault and also the eco seats etc removed from configurator he says they will look into it. Sure they will fix the issues its just annoying to the end user yet again :-( My bike has landed well 3 actually mine's one of these in the picture collection Wed NEW bike I hope.....

Looking for a CNC Sat nave bracket ? and ideas of top box?

Enjoy

Your design different to ours? Won't be. It drops mostly when sitting and paddling.

Day out to Wales today with my wife pillion.

The bike is quite simply the very best I've owned for two up - for me. The bike is a beast.... yet has perfect manners for touring two up. Just left the suspension in Auto, street mode, anti-dive on, done.

Only gripe - seats are awful. I mean terrible. No movement now I've fixed it though. The indicator switch needs pushing in and down with the lower part of your thumb, then its ok.

My wifes feet sit outside mine on the bike so I spent the day with the balls of my feet on the pegs where they should be. No heel kicking! Zero complaints about stiff legs/knees. The pillion leg angle isnt far off 90 degrees so really comfortable (5'5")

I just can't describe how good this bike is to ride. If you're like me and don't want an RT just yet, choose this bike. Or at least go and ride one. Forget the GS thats for sure....no way I'd have another GS over one of these. I can't comment on the Multi with it's V4 and the 4 year warranty is very good. But I'd be amazed if it could match the KTM.

300 miles today on some bumpy twisty roads in the borders, seat still in the high position. Great fun, engine is a peach and the suspension just sucked up everything thrown at it.
Very pleased with the change.
