As the title suggests, I am seriously looking at a new 411 'Himmy'. They are offering me a good price for my 5 year old Bullet and it kind of makes it a no brainer. I know the new 452 is probably better etc, etc, but for what I need it for the 411 will be enough.

I am settling into reading through the threads about the bikes, but anything I should know before I go and talk to them???

Very little to know really. It is a marvellously simple bike.

The usual ‘improvements’ are:

Free breathing air filter.

Better spark plug.

Replace the starter / ignition relay. I replaced all of them, as decent Bosch ones are not a whole bucket of cash.

Sintered brake pads.

Adjustable side stand.

Chain oiler.

Some bods go on with big bore kits / cam / exhaust etc but the bike is 25 bhp, so really what monster power is anyone going release? If you want a more powerful bike…. Go buy one. Maybe an exhaust but really that is more to shed weight than add power.

Luggage will always be a personal taste thing.

No doubt there are screens, seats, lights and all sorts of other bits and pieces available.

Mine seems to lose (ie. it just stops working) its front brake light switch for some reason I cannot work out.

How tall are you? I'm 6ft and found the raised pillion seat prevented me from sitting comfortably. Shame because in every other respect the bike was fine. Try before you buy.

They go incredibly well on unpaved roads ! Health to enjoy.

Thanks!

You may be able to find a 1+ Yr old, low miles, already farkled one at a very good price? Seemingly RE dealers not offering much for trade in bikes against the new 452 so keep your eyes out for a bargain. I think the 411 is such a great choice for a second bike in the garage, well built and a super simple air cooled single, self maintained is a dawdle ....and capable off road and down gravel tracks etc.

Edit: saw you were trading a bullet with a dealer 👍

Me? Six foot. 31 inch inside leg. I have found no problem. As always, it’s ride it and try it, indeed.

Adjustable side stand.

Chain oiler.

These two suggestions, came from a fellow and his wife on the forum, who are away riding in South America, she on her Himalayan. From memory, she / they had done very little else to her bike, which I guess is a testament to it and / or her. I’ll see if I can find the PM’s they kindly sent me, when I asked them a question. It was from them that I picked up about the very simple Tutoro chain oiler I fitted.

The other suggestions in post #2 I think came from bits I picked up, either from UKGSer’s Royal Enfield sub-section or from the internet. As I said, people no doubt do all sorts of ‘Must do’ things to their bikes; me, I do not see the point. Thinking about it, the only other change I made was to fit a aftermarket carrier for my XT GPS device, which I imported from India. This I had altered by someone on UKGSer, as the bar on the carrier was too large a diametrer for the block onto which the XT’s mount mounted, if that makes sense. The fellow very kindly made me a new bar.

Anything else? If going away for a long time, I’d carry a spare inner tube and a headlight bulb.

Most useful? A half decent disclock. If I were a scrote, out to pinch a bike to rag around the streets for 30 minutes and then set fire to, I’d nick something light and simple, which a Himalayan is. I’d also not forget the pound of butter in my fridge.

Looking at one tomorrow, it's a 2023 model, only a few months old. This will of course be a Euro 5 model, which I know from research you can do very little with regarding fueling etc, but is that an issue?? I plan to ride it as well before I decide, but anyones thoughts would be welcome?

Cant comment on the Euro 5 Himmie but Powertronics do a Fuel X lite for Euro 4&5

I have one on my KTM 390 ( 2022 model) . It was obvious I needed one as A it chugged like a tractor if the revs dropped below 4k in 2/3 or 4th and B the fan came on in Nov & Dec within 10 mins of riding.

After fitting its was night and day , no over heating , fan has come on maybe half a dozen times in 1700 miles since fitting. The fuelling is spot on and there does not appear to be any detriment to fuel consumption, currently getting 82 mpg ( yes I know I need to rag it more).

Sofrom my perspective I would say ride it and see how it feels. RE fuelling maps to achieve BS6 are not necessarily the same as KTM’s.

It’s 25 bhp wringing wet. Quite what do you have in mind by tweaking the fueling? With mine, I simply put in a free flow filter, a better plug and did the relays. The bike itself, fuels fine (for what it is).

Honestly, if you want more oooomph, buy a different bike. Even consider riding the Scram side-by-side. Different bikes, ergonomically, but the same engine and power…. Very different to ride though.

Thanks old chap. I wasn't really thinking of doing anything to it in all honesty, but a few have said to me the EU4 bike is a better option as you can do something with it? Is yours EU4 or EU5 Richard?

Thanks Steve, that's interesting. ive just read the gumph and it seems like a good mod? I am going to test the bike tomorrow hopefully, but in the first instance I don't plan on doing anything to it, Like Wapping said, it is what it is and if you want a faster bike then just buy one!

Hi , just to be clear the FuelX doesnt increase bhp at all. The mighty 411 remains the mighty 411 all 25 bhp. The issue is Indian BS6 bikes (Euro 5) are set to run really lean in whats called closed loop. Wide open throttle is open loop. The fuel X does nothing in open loop. As I mentioned my ktm ( and lots of others ktm’s) surge and judder in the range 2.5 to 4 k rpm eg slow left hand junction. A 14:1 compression ratio doesnt help. By richening up the mixture at low revs the juddering is stopped.

The 411 Himmie has a compression ration of 9.5 to 1. Its a lot softer so the BS6 tune may suit it better. Your ride tomorrow will be the best indicator.

Ah well, nothing ventured.. Went to look at this today, 3 months old, 350 miles, RE panniers/Engine guard/Hand guards, 1st service done. I am collecting it later this week!
