2024 Africa twin

Gs1300 sold and gone thank goodness africatwin adventure sport here no diagnostics issues peace of mind reliability
Sold already ? Wow. I bought a new 1250GS Trophy in Jan 23. Got rid in Aug 23. It was a lemon with a litany of engine and electronics issues.

I know this is an older thread, but I've been considering trading my 2022 Goldwing DCT on a 2025 Africa Twin AS. Two issues of concern are
1) the overly complex display for changing various modes and whatnot (which I could probably adjust to).
2) engine heat (which I could not adjust to). Not everyone complains of it but many do. There was mention of a Honda accessory piece that deflected radiator heat to some extent. Not sure if it is for 24-25 AS models though? Then exhaust heat around the right foot peg is mentioned, not sure how that could be remedied short of rerouting the exhaust or at minimum eliminating the catalytic convertor.

Can any 2024 AS owners here share their thoughts on engine heat in warm riding temperature?

Hi Clifton,

I have moved from a 2021 goldwing Tour to a 2024 AT AS and to be honest I haven't noticed excessive engine heat at all. wearing average riding gear and also riding and riding in jeans and walking style boots (I know don't judge me 😟)
only managed a short number of miles but in a range of weathers; rain cold and reasonably warm, and my legs and both feet haven't been noticeably hot.

I will certainly look out for this on my next ride and report back here though.

I feel the Dash can seem complicated, especially compared with the Goldwing's dash, however I concentrated on one function at a time (sorry if I'm teaching you how to suck eggs there Clifton) and now changes are becoming slicker plus lets consider how many times you need to make changes/adjustments on a ride out? Each to their own I suppose.
Take for example moving from "Tour" mode to any of the off road modes, "up" & "Down" buttons needed to surf through the options of different modes.

The touch screen is a blessing though and something That Honda should seriously consider adopting on the Goldwing IMO

Admittedly there are more finer adjustments than the Goldwing but for me they are mostly made as I adjust to riding a new bike anyway.

For reference I am 58 and bikes have been in most of my life. I am not an Off road God and not a speed demon as they say. I just enjoy riding bikes.

Stay safe

Richie

I've had a Late 2020 ATAS (the old one with the big front hoop). I bought it with 2,500 miles on it in May 2022 and its got just under 30,000 miles on it now. I love the thing the engine while not powerful compared to a GS is a peach. The only PITA is checking the valves (which I documented on these pages). I get on OK with the switchgear. Most of the buttons are only really relevant if you are using Android Auto or Car Play. But there is a learning curve and its not as intuitive as the BMW whizz wheel. I sat in the garage with the Battery on a (Lithium Ion) charger and practiced with the buttons until I could use them without looking as I use AA for navigation. The electronic suspension is very good and mine is a manual with quickshifter (which works well). The chain needs to be slacker than you think (lots of suspension travel). 300 mile range from the 25ltr, 6.5 US Gallon tank. No engine heat issues for me and I've ridden it in 30c on the continent unless in traffic......but then all bikes would heat you up in those circumstances. Great bike.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Richie and Mzokk. Sounds like heat isn't an issue for either of you. How do you find the throttling to be? If it's a little snatchy I guess one of the riding modes like rain or off road could soften it while still offering full power.

Your 2020 AS is sharp in that design and colour. 2025's, at least the one offered here, are similar colour but the stripes are more like lightening bolts rather than straight which I don't care for as much. Not a deal breaker though.

Clifton.....if I remember correctly.....are you in one of the Carolina's?

Things might be a bit different with regards to bike temps in a warmer climate??

On mine the throttling is good much better than my old R1150GS but not as good as my (now departed) 2014 R1200RT. I would imagine that the DCT gearbox would show up any fueling issues more than a manual? That said, I believe that the 2024-25 bike have much improved fueling and DCT mapping but I haven't ridden one.

The bike comes with 4 set riding modes. Tour, Urban, Gravel, and off road + two User modes. I tend to use the two user modes. One is set full power slightly stiffer damping than "tour" and a bit more rear preload to put it on its nose a bit (it has very conservative steering geometry) + engine braking on full. This is the setting I use when "making progress". The other user mode is set up with damping similar to Urban (which is a medium setting) and a soft throttle map (you still get full power if you twist the throttle right round) and a bit of rear preload as I like the slightly sharper steering but with full engine braking(urban backs this off). I use this setting 90% of the time pottering about as its comfy but the bike still handles well.

younger, I live in northern West Virginia right near the Pennsylvania border. Temperature typically reaches 29-32c in summer, 35-36 would be unusually warm and might happen for a few days every 2-3 years and last year was one of them. Riding my V100 Stelvio across Ohio in the bright sun at 35 degrees was very uncomfortable because of all the heat from the radiator blowing on me. When I got off the bike the 35* air almost felt cool. Riding across eastern Montana on my Goldwing in 41* heat wasn't as uncomfortable since the hot air exits the radiators out the side of the bike and the exhaust is well shielded.

Sounds like just setting a user mode to soft throttling with full engine braking is what I'd want. Then add this for a simple 1 button press to turn off traction control (including wheelie) and rear ABS.

Clifton I have just had a quick trip out on country roads and dual carriageways. I didn't notice any heat on my legs at all (y)

engine was hot but no hotter than any other bike in my opinion.
now to adjust my chain:rolleyes:
