2024 Himalayan 450

Bike of the year

NegNChips will be upgrading from the TenaLady soon.
Not a chance
Sorry to disappoint
At the weight of the Himalayan 450 at only 10kg less and half the bhp, why would anyone????
Tenere is 3x the bike that the 450 isn’t
Surprised you have bought one, you’re usually more savvy (anyway when it arrives, you’ll probably sell it after 3 months 🤔🙃)

I haven’t seen you advertising that shonky piece of overpriced crap, the XT, yet JB. A pity, as I am in the market to buy another first generation one.

I have got to grips with it now (via Basecamp)
I can even find green lanes, now I am using Topo maps on it

Just came back from 173 miles around Highland Perthshire and back. Observations.

Petrol consumption stayed at high 80s on NSL roads and low 80s on the 60 miles ISH of motorway. I'll do a fill - fill calculation later and post it.

Cruising at motorway speeds was fine. Some vibes at 5.5k. These smoothed out a bit by 6k.

The mirrors showed the vibration although it was never uncomfortable for me. There's a proper blind spot too so a wee investigation into alternatives will be in order.

Wind was bearable at mway speeds. The air from that wee screen was smooth when it hit my helmet. I'm 6ft. That might not be the case for shorterarses! :D

Riding position was vg at all speeds. Seat comfort still not terrific. Another investigation is in order. Anyone got experience of the comfort seat?IMG_20240714_145825_338.jpg

.

Love that photo Pete bike looks good in grey..

I find the seat comfy , it can get a bit blustery but no helmet buffeting so all good for me

Glen Quaich. One of my favourite roads and views. The pic really does not do it justice. Here's what came up next :eek:IMG_20240714_145945_415.jpg

Yes, great little backroads round there Peter, can confirm totally unsuitable for a MH/Caravan etc 😒

It’s arrived

Ready for collection

I took the bike for a spin today. On the way back, I tried the navigation feature. It worked perfectly. I did a few random turns off the route and it switched within a couple of seconds without any "Re-calculating!" that's so irritating on Garmin units. It linked to the Sena unit perfectly and gave clear turn by turn directions.

It won't replace the Garmin for pre-planned routes and of course the Garmin doesn't use up data on the phone. However, a useful addition for one off ... "Take me to a hotel" or whatever.

When using a phone for navigation, data usage is not very high. If anyone is really concerned, download the maps and put the phone into flight mode. You’ll miss the calls from your mum, but hey-ho.

The vibes haven't bothered me much but they've clearly had an impact!

Lesson learned: when adjusting the chain, torque the axle to spec and then go back and ensure the adjuster Allan bolt is fully tight also.IMG_20240730_172926_998.jpgIMG_20240730_172915_929.jpg

On a positive note, I set a pic and an email to Holywood garage last night. I asked about spares availability, not expecting a positive reply.

This morning, I get a call from Gordon in Dumfries telling me it's all available and he's ordered what I need and he'll give me a call when the stuff arrives.

Terrific service and I'm 100% certain the local dealer would not have offered the same! Or anywhere near it!

And I'll be purchasing some blue Loctite!

friend in spain had a 411 and just exed it for a 450

having ridden the 411 and loved it apart from the brakes and speed

hopefully get a go on the newer one see what theyre like (his is also in arseys colour)

was it someone on here that called it john player special :D

Collected my tubeless Hanle black yesterday and fitted a few farkles last two days .

Tall screen and new mirrors . You’d need to do a double take to realise they’re not.

Just waiting for an electrical connector before I can wire up my Chigee, plus heated grips and Barkbusters.

Tank will need to come off and only want to do it once so waiting for the ACC plug to arrive.

Hardly ridden it yet but it rides very nicely on the TKC 70s.
