2024 V-Strom 800 RE

Ride it like you’ve stole it and the old bill is on your tail with ni no ni no ni no ni no soundtrack in your ears.

The days of break in are gone.

Just don’t redline it or lug it before first service. We’ll forever really. Ride as normal.

Just ride it... Because I guarantee the guy who did the PDI did a full break in in five miles...

Indeed

I remember going to the Triumph factory at Hinckley in the early 1990’s
Finished bikes were put on a rolling road dyno
Revved to the redline in every gear and then went down the box to a stop
Oil was dropped at next stage of line
Refilled with new oil
Then crated up to be shipped to the dealers for sale to new customers

And nothing has changed....

All engines made by quality manufacturers are tested at the factory. And broken in hard.

The first service IS important though. There is a lot of debris in the dropped oils. Especially from a BMW final drive.

The "break-in" procedure is there to encourage people to ride carefully and controlled in the first 1000km. Because you're effectively finishing off the testing of the bike. If something was to go catitrophically wrong with a new bike, it's likely going to happen then. And it' far safer if you're pootling down the road at 30mph than screaming the tits off at down the autobahn at 200mph.

Does it come with a crane to get the pillion into place?

will a V-Strom 800 do 200mph, even if you do scream the tits off it?

Aprilia did that with a mates then brand new model Mille R except Luigi must have been on the vino at lunchtime and the factory rolling road test was done minus the oil. Dealer found it at PDI and a bore scope soon showed it had been run without oil.

It was rejected by the dealer and a new bike supplied

Anyone on here bought one or test ridden one?

Considering swapping out my 750GS for one, the basic spec looks good the only thing putting me off is the butt ugly face, screen and lack of a main stand!

Only ridden the DE but it’s fabulous apart from screen which should have been resolved by the bigger screen on RE .
The motor is sublime as is quick shifter.
