2026 Pan America

BMW R1300 GSA ?

The Pan Am is 299 with three box luggage .
The GSA is 269 without luggage .
Most ally panniers weigh 6-8 kgs so add that on and it won’t be much short of the Pan Am
The standard GS TE is 264kg weighed by 1000ps online video
I reckon a GSA TE is closer to 300kg

At the moment US goods don't appeal to me. Maybe in three years

Thought I might go look at a few used versions today.
However. Just watched this and need a rethink.

I heard something about them being made in Taiwan now .... better than china but not want you may think ... I have a friend looking at used one right now ... we'll see how it goes .....
big rock moto has a couple of reviews on these ..... might be where I heard the Taiwan thing ....

A battery under the sump guard, WTF! So and ford or river crossing will basically short it out and you are fucked. What were they thinking - it is meant to be an adventure bike. I'm out.

It's not ideal but a sealed battery should be alright for short periods of submersion, being mounted in the air flow it would dry out pretty quickly.

My KTM 990 Adv had the battery down there. Many “nearly at my knees” river crossings and ran fine I did clean it well after every big trip away and smeared a bit of Vaseline on it. Clean-ish water actually isn’t that great a conductor compared to the electrical cables.

Cheers

Popped into my local HD dealer yesterday to have a good look at one of these.

Just sitting on it in the showroom, it's very balanced and you don't feel the weight although it's a big lump of a thing.

They have a demo so I'm going to take it out hopefully on Saturday for a good long ride.

The salesman did say that the early ones did have issues which were never really addressed properly but the later ones have so far been no problem.

They have an ex demo 25 plate Adventure Touring up for sale for £13.5 which seems like a half decent deal.

The ST with smaller wheels gets good write ups and like GS’s, most won’t go properly off road

The Pan America 1250 special is 263 Kg fueled & ready to ride so pretty much the same as a GS Adventure.

I had at a look at them
The ST is 245kg and seat 825
Ltd is 299 and 815
Special is 263 and 850

So you take your pick, the ST seems the one I’d look at

Some good deals on used bikes .
This pre reg 2024 bike is only £9k at Superbike Factory Crawley
