22mm Hex tool Front Wheel

I've not tied yet (or had to) take the front wheel of, but time soon most probably will, so were is best to get this 22mm Hex tool which it says in the manual.
Is it a dealer job or is there some smart way !!

hydraulic connector!!!

I found a 22mm hydraulic connector in the workshop at the farm... it long enough to provide drive on the socket and the axle too! and it was free!

Got one via ebay from a link on this site a little while back.

I used a Stainless bolt with 22mm head and 2 matching nuts - stick it in your socket/torque wrench and jobs a goodun.

22mm Hex tool front wheel

Get the BMW 1200GS plug spanner from your dealer (£5.75) - the outside of it fits the front axle perfectly, thus killing two birds with one stone. Why the hell didn't BMW provide a plug spanner, and tools to remove wheels in the first place!!!

It is simple a hexagonal male piece

So then you need a socket to fit and torque it

Front spindle: 50Nm
Spindle pinch bolt: 19Nm
Front caliper bolts: 30Nm

See my thread above - Part No. C71.11.2.303.416. Again, £5.75, and you've got a plug tool as well. Trust me, I've got one, after the dealer was trying to sell me Hex tool as well as plug wrench!

Sounds like a great idea Bertie- but how do you torque the plug spanner on reassembly ?

There's a hex end to the plug spanner that even the open ended spanner in the tool kit(!) fits - a socket and torque wrench is an easy fit.
