Going to set up camp in Braithwaite near Keswick in Cumbria on Saturday 22nd of this month and have a good ride out Sat afternoon and Sun morning, with a night out in Keswick on the Sat. Plenty of spots to eat in town and within walking distance back to the tent !

Hoping to do all or most of the passes on Saturday and visit the coast on Sunday.

If anyone would like to come along let me know and details will be sent and posted here.

Could be a bit of fun !

Excellent

That will be great Ian. We could get there any time you like on Sat morning - can ride down together if you want. The tent is a bit large so may be delivered by car  Let me know if you want anything taken. Are you both interested ?

Cheers

David

I see you're a beer fan..

Is there a purveyor of hand-pulled ales within crawling distance of the campsite by the remotest chance?

:augie

Ale

There certainly is !

The Royal Oak in the same village do a good pint !

Also, Keswick has loads of good pubs. You cant get out of the car without banging your head on a beer pump.

You will be most welcome !

David

I'll keep my eye on the thread.

I'll be over later on Saturday if I make it.

A Bit More Info

Here is a bit more info for you:

Campsite is 2 miles west of Keswick just off the A66, at the foot of the Whinlatter Pass.

It has a shop, cafe (good breakfast) and brand new facilities.

The site does not really allow groups, but I have been staying there regularly for about 42 years so know the owners and they say it's OK as long as we don't have any hooligans or stunt riders :rob

You should be able to get away without cooking gear as everything we need is on site and a decent price - it's up to you.

There is hard standing for bikes if needed - see pic.

If you want to get there on the Friday let me know and I will probably join you. Anyone who comes along a bit later on the Saturday can ring me or leave a message and I will tell you where we are so you can ride and join us.

Hi
The Mrs & myself just came through there on thursday on the way back from a few days around the isle of Arran and stayed on that site. As you say the site is very very tidy and the toilet/shower block is the cleanest I have seen. The only down fall is that is very flat, when I got up this morning every where was water logged with large areas of standing water over the whole site.It looks like there are some newish drains or soak aways around the site so this may help! but no signs of them working this morning. sorry to sound negative,If it dry, fine, the best site I have seen for its facilities and tidyness.
Have a good weekend

Thanks

Hi, cheers Graham. You are quite right, lots of rain has fallen this week - typical August.
I will keep an eye on the situation for the weekend.

Ta !

re camping

hi any space for another 2 bmws depending on weather(sick of getting wet)im in hawick and me mates in south shields would be there on sat morning cheers for now

No Problem

Aye there is loads of room. Keep an eye on this thread though - as someone points out above if it's wet the camp site will be a mud bath.

We could all still meet up for a long ride though if the day itself is dry ?
I know a few great chippies if its a bit dull and we need cheering up. :drool

I will post on here about Thursday with the news...........

Cheers
