Now I have a LOT of tent pegs of various sizes, lengths, weights, colours, shapes and strengths but I’ve never felt the need for a 24” one! When the hell would that be of any use? And if you needed one ( or more ) you’re probably in the wrong place to put a tent / tarp up!
Carrying them must cause its own issues too.

I'd guess that in somewhere with Soft upper surfaces you need a long peg to hold the tent down into a more solid under surface, or there's enough pressure to hold it. Places either with a lot of loose Sand or Snow.

There are designated pegs for sand and snow. Huge wide things.

Yes, I have a load for some of my lifting kites and big trilobite kite.

So your peg can reach the river bottom, keeping your tent on top like a waterbed.

We did have some 18-20” wooden tent pegs back when we had a 40’X20’ marquee. It was 1942 vintage and took some putting up. The two upright poles and the ridge pole were around 8” diameter.

When we went camping in deeper snow, we used to take garden bamboo stakes to give some depth. Nowadays you have to have the exact thing rather than make do.

Back in the day:

Camped about 3500m in the Alps, before we got better (geodesic) tents. The old Force 10 weighed a ton to carry, and we had to use our ice kit to hold the tent down. No ordinary 6" peg would have held it, even in a "bomb crater".
