"On Saturday, gardai in Donegal were said to be stunned when they clocked four bikers going in the direction of Donegal Town doing 260kph on the Bundoran-Ballyshannnon bypass, where the speed limit is 100kph."
Irish Independent

Four men, have been charged with dangerous driving and are due to appear before Ballyshannon District Court on Friday.

Any guesses on the sentences?

2 year ban. €500 fine ...happened to a mate of mine in the same area, 10 years ago but that's what he got.

I think they will get prison (2-3 months) possibly suspended 18 month ban, & £500 & have to sit a re test.

Not to mention the increased insurance premiums.........................examples made of

i wanna know how they caught them:aidan

"Such was the speed they were travelling at that speed corps gardai were unable to pursue them and radioed ahead to colleagues to stop them. Gardai finally stopped the four 25km up the road and arrested them"

I don't find myself rushing to judgement on this.

There was a time - a long time ago to be fair - if such performance were available to me ....you know the rest - you really do; you would have been there too.

Nor do I find myself nodding in approval.

Boys will always be boys; they will take risks - society's outlook changes.
I grew up on post war comics that glorified derring do (AKA risk taking).
Such behaviour is now frowned upon - 'suppose it's today's values that count today; yesterday is over.

People must be saved from themselves and others must be saved from them.

That said 260 K on the Bundoran bypass............there's a lot worse.

In another part of the world bank executives are getting golden handshakes for what might be termed fraud.
Perhaps not a fair comparision - but who were these 4 guys cheating?

But I'm confused.

To answer my friend's question these guys will see jail.
There are others more deserving of jail.

I have a nice pile of stones here all ready for chucking - so who among us is without sin.

It won't really matter that much to them as according to figures, a vast number to riders/drivers in the republic have never sat a driving test.

This was Donegal Town yesterday......................the peelers were keeping a good eye on things too......................

They were out again on the Bundoran - Ballyshannon bypass on Sunday morning. Only but for a friendly flash of the lights from a car driver they could have had Jockser and me at 110 kph.

On any other day 110 kph along that road would probably get you a severe talking to, but I'd say you would have had no chance yesterday after those antics on Saturday.

Upside: the boys were having a great time.
Downside: the boys were creating a serious danger to anyone else on the road, imagine looking down the road from a side turn, no traffic, ok to go, suddenly 4 bikes whiz past you...it only re-inforces the view of bikers as selfish goms. If they want to race, use a racetrack.

I see that two of the four are from Co Tyrone - will be interesting to see what happens with regard to their UK licenses

True, they are still on the provisional licence, but they'll get a nice big stamp on this and their full Car licence (if they have one) for the life of the licence.

Mate went past Garda speed check at 161mph.... Their usual procedure was to get off the road ASAP so they wouldn't get caught further ahead.
This day a little voice in his head convenced him to turn around and hand himself in.
He's positive he wouldn't be alive today if he hadn't

Absolutely no sympathy for these ejits.

You can say big boys and their toys but if they want to rake around at that speed, do it on a track. Too many innocent bods about now a days and I'm one of them.

Absolutely Nothing. {except within the Bounderies of the Republic} whatever monitary/custodial {although unlikely } fines the "republic,s Judicial" may impose
they have no powers to impose anything on their UK licence.
Unlike the Other Way Round. Swansea has a dedicated "Foreign" drivers points
holding system.
