Hi All,

I am new to the enduro scene (& this site) and about to purchase a Dakar. I plan to set it up with GPS and was seeking some information on GPS options.

As I understand from other posts on this site the Navigator II and 2610 are basically one and the same that said is there any reason I should look at BMW’s option?

In the same line what is the general feeling/experience with a bike mountain Bluetooth GPS function on a PDA? Does it all work on a bike or are the PDA’s to susceptible to vibration, weather etc?

As I am looking at $1000 - $2000 difference between the three options I would like to make the best choice up front and as such advice and any experience would be most welcome.

Regards.

I have a PDA with TomTom Navigator 3 in the car and it's a pain in the proverbial. Always needs rebooting (Windows!), loses connection with the GPS receiver, slow recalculation times. No possibility to plan route on a PC and then download to the unit. Maps are limited and it can't handle off map/off road at all.

I've just bought a 2610 and whilst the display screen aren't as neat it excels in all other areas. The base memory is 256MB whilst the BMW unit is 512 MB, so I bought a 1GB card to increase the memory but even the base memory handles a large area.

Tim,

Thanks for the information. I think I shall look more closely at the 2610 option as well.

Conversely I use a Garmin IQUE 3600 PDA with built in Sat Nav in the car and truck. All of the above negatives become Positives for me, and but for the obvious downsides, ie. fragile and not waterproof, I prefer the IQUE to my 2610 and it has its own power source, Grrrrrreat bit of kit.
