Am I right in thinking that the Garmin 2610 has no internal battery and must either be connected to a 12dc power supply from the bike or a 240Vac connection via the mains lead supplied???

It seems a back wards step if it is.
I've just opened it up today (I've had it a month aleady) and must admit I am not impressed by the touch screen at the moment but hopefully I will get use to it. The remote control is handy but of no use on your bike:rolleyes:

I'll have to spend some time reading Whattons idiots guides....:type

Still can't understand the reason for no internal battery:nenau

No internal batteries, ask those who had a SP3 and used only battery power. ;)

As for the touch screen, if you don't like it, why not get a BM Nav 2 which has the extra buttons. :thumb

OK there are a few negative issues with the 2610. No battery is one. Poor contrast on the screen is another. Only 2000 trackpoints and limited route memory are two more.

But it costs less than half of what the alternatives cost! And as a GPS navigator workhorse it beats the Zumo. It will do the job in situations where the Zumo is useless. When you get used to it you will understand that the 2610 gives great value for the money.

I still have my SP3 and find the fact I can carry it from room to room whilst programing it very handy. I am sure I will get used to the 2610 but was very happy with my SP3. the 2610 does have more features and is aledgely quicker in recalculating should one go off route;)

Agreed about off the bike. But on it? a PITA IIRC. Say "off route recalculating" it's about the time taken for the 2610 to recalculate a new route that takes the SP3 a couple of minutes. :)
