Well I started this whole thread, so I thought you'd all be pleased to know that I registered my 276c and no errors, no flashing blue lights, and my computer didn't crash! I called Garmin today, to double check, and they said if I didn't recieve an error then the unit isn't stolen! Yeah!
Now I also asked about some online forum chatter about upgrades and V7 and V8 and loads of things that I have yet to understand, and was told that "if I was you, I would wait before buying the automative kit" I asked how long, and was told "20th Feb" or he might have said 25th of Feb, either way, I've waited long enough for this gadget, so I think I can hold off another 10 days or so.

I also discovered that streetmap.co.uk gives you GPS coordinates at the botoom of the page, which to me (I'm a novice) seemed quiet good for putting in waypoints, but then I guess if you have all the gubbins, then you don't need this method.

This is consistent with what they told me two weeks ago. Note that DVD shipping may take time so it may take another 30-60 days before you have the map on your PC.

It's still a good idea to start learning how to use the device and MapSource on the PC.

Ask a friend to install his MapSource and his Unlock Code on your PC. It's OK to do so since you can't upload his maps to your GPS.

But you can start training on MapSource. And you can create routes, waypoints and tracks that you can upload to the 276C. You can not use the continous routes without a map in the 276C but you can create polygon type of routes that are quite useful.

GPS coordinates? With MapSource on your PC this is no longer an issue. Have you tried Google Earth? That's a another great tool for finding GPS coordinates!

Google Earth’s also a great way of visualising were your planning on going; ie create a waypoint or track in Mapsource and upload it to Google Earth I use it all the time now.

This is the famous Assietta Kammstrasse. The road is not on the Garmin map but it is on the Google Earth map. By jumping back & forth between MapSource and Google Earth it's possible to make routes on roads that are not on the map!
