Being about to place my order I think I would like to have two 256mb cards and city select (or whatever) but not buy the car nav kit all vendors seem to offer.

Advice based on experience of other options will be very welcome.

My car kit came with City Select V 6.0 and I just installed a free upgrade to V 7.0. It does everything I could ask of it.

When you plan a route there is the ability to just download the maps around the route as opposed to the whole country which saves space.

I was playing the other day and got a trip from Kendal to Plymouth, Roscoff to Gibraltar to Calais and Dover to Kendal on one 256MB card although it did say that the info was truncated - haven't checked exactly what that meant yet.

Sounds good WW, should be able to get my NI-Scotland-Newcasle-Harwich-Cuxhaven(Germany)-Sachsenring round trip on one card then.

I would prefer not to buy the car kit but have not found City select stand alone as yet.

What you need is a ram kit plus city select/navigator. Ask Ram man or go to their site www.gpsw.co.uk but it seems hard to find just the software, for some strange reason you can get OZ and USA etc but don't seem to offer Europe. Give them a call, I found them very helpfull by email.

How are you going to power it????? You'll need that cable too.

A bare ended cable comes with the 276c as standard, as does a marine/deck mount and main charger/lead

Richie,

According to the list of box contents a "power/data cable" is included but with just cable terminations and no plug. The manual on the garmin site has a cable coding diagram, so I intend to put on a BMW plug or just wire it direct to the back of the power socket.

Richie

The prices across the board at www.gpsw.co.uk are very high compared to many others I have seen in the last couple of days.

Here's a lead that I made earlier.

It plugs into a socket at the front of the bike and a 3.5mm mono socket is also attached for audio.

Just the job WW, I think that I will add the optional BM power socket up front also and the idea of running the sound output that way is very neat.

Understood Terry, I don't work for them, just had good service....

Bought my GPS from Sportextreme and got a good deal, just no bill....

Agree Richie, their price is quite good for uk sourced stuff.

Sorry :( I forgot to mention, there is a USB data cable with the 276c kit.

Thanks to everyone for the constructive guidance, I have ordered the kit now and list below suppliers and prices.

Ask direct: 276C-GBP460; World map-GBP40; 256mb card-GBP110. I bought from Ask because the software and card were well priced, and though I found a GPS price about GBP14 lower from www.sportsextreme.com I decided that a uk supplier for the hardware with a retail outlet in Tottenham Court Road, London W1 was a better bet in case of problems. Freight is free on the mainland but we poor relations in NI have to add GBP7.50 for UPS.

Aspidshop: AutoNav kit for 276C including City Select/cables/mounts and 256mb card GBP238 delivered uk. This was the cheapest by GBP30+ and a good uk deal was not found by my two finger web skills.

Incidentally, Heine Gericke do a clone of the BMW dc plug and socket. Plug part no.24000929 at GBP2.99 and Socket 24000928 at GBP3.99. No cable of course but a metre length of 2.5mm two core cable soldered to the terminals on the back of the GS plug and some shrink would handle any nav. kit we are likely to fit. The krauts buy them and in the old German HG catalogue I had they said clearly that they were a BMW substitute. They are very recognisable in the catalogue and maybe on the wegsite also.

Wraithwrider how did you get a free upgrade of v 7.0 for your 276c

Because I bought V6 within one month of the release date for V7 I was allowed to apply for a free upgrade on the Garmin UK website.

They didn't reply to my emails but V7 update disk arrived a couple of weeks later.

Entering the code was a bit of a pain but again the websie steered me through the process.
