Just got back from a trip abroad and used the 2820 to navigate from the airport to where I was staying. Come time to return to the airport I discovered that there is no reverse route option as per the 2610. I had to go into my route and manually re-order my route.

Is there a easier way of reversing a route on a 2820?

I used mapsource to create the route and uploaded it to my GPS. I incorrectly assumed it transferred the mapoint waypoints I created in mapsource into my waypoints on the 2820 but it didn't. If it did, I could've found the airport in my waypoints and used the "go to" function.

Make your point of embarkation "home" & simply when you get to your destination, return "home"....

It should have uploaded the WP's as well :nenau

I suspect that when you uploaded the route, you didn't tick the box to send them???

In mapsource, when you have the route shown, right click on it and select 'invert route' and it'll reverse it for you, then you upload both routes :thumb

Don't know if it's possible to do it on the unit itself :nenau

I had the waypoints and routes ticked in Mapsource. It uploaded the turns and locations i waypointed in mapsource but they weren't available as waypoints in the 2820

On a 2610 you can reverse a route at the touch of a button - it's an option when you navigate a route. There doesn't seem to be this facility to do this on the 2820. Another shortcoming on the 2820. Grrrrrr this will be the last Garmin I buy :spitfire

I haven't looked in detail at the 2820 but do have a 2720 and suspect that the 2820's user interface is similar, so here goes...

Waypoints Were they waypoints or via points that you created in MapSource? Both are transferred with the route (as long as you have the Waypoints checkbox ticked in MapSource) but only Waypoints are available on the GPSR for use as part of other routes.

Reversing a Route You're right - there isn't a one-button option to reverse a route on the 2720 or, apparently, on the 2820. One problem with reversing routes in MapSource that I've come across is that if you've used a waypoint (or via point for that matter) that's tied to one side of a dual carriageway then when you reverse the route that waypoint is actually on the wrong side of the road for the return journey. This results in a route that has you traversing up and down a length of road so that you actually hit the defined waypoint/via point. Did the 2610 handle this correctly? I don't know, but I suspect that's why the one button "reverse route" option isn't available on the 2720/2820. Anyway, here's how you reverse a route on the 2720 (some of the menu options aren't 100% correct coz I don't have my 2720 in front of me :o but you'll get the gist):
  1. Make the route active and then edit the route (Menu>Tools>Turn list>Edit Route)
  2. Select "Edit/Review Points"
  3. Select the option to change the sequence of the points in the route ("Re-order points"?)
  4. Select either the original start point and move it down past the original end point, or select the original end point and move it up past the original start point
  5. Select "Done" (I think!)
  6. Select "Auto Arrange"
  7. Answer "no" to the question about whether you want the destination point to be reordered
The route will now recalculate, and any intermediate points will be automatically reordered to give you the shortest distance from your (new) start point to the (new) destination via all the intermediate points. You will, of course, still need to watch out for the "wrong side of a dual carriageway" problem.

Hope this helps

On a 2610 you can reverse a route at the touch of a button - it's an option when you navigate a route.

i've never found a way of doing that on a 2610, i even posted a question here, and was told it's not possible.

if you know how, do tell...
