2nd August 2008 - Wiltshire Green Lane Rideout - Novice/Big trailie friendly

Just stick to the main tracks and you will be fine.
The main reason I use Wilts for the novice and big bike rides is there is nearly always an easy way around the trickier bits, but plenty of water and mud for those feeling brave.
The choice is theirs tho. :)

Sounds perfect - I'll plan to join you as well... I'm on tourances too, so might be taking the easy routes! :thumb

Abel,
route ok with a pillion? I did Clives White Horse run with a pillion and Anakees without mishap if that is anyway comparable to the route you are planning.:thumb2

Doh!

Ummm'd and rrrrr'd about the last one did'nt go!:blast

Cant make this one, Doh! :(

Will there be another for us mud virgins?:augie

Seen the after ride reps, and it looked like a good larf!

Got some mates that go 4x4ing on the plain, but it probably better to go with experianced bike mud puppies, than several trucks and jus me on the bike!

Yeah there will be other days. Probably not until late Oct tho, as I am off to the Pyrenees off roading in Sept. :)

Where in Solstice Park do we meet? Anyone have GPS coords perhaps?

Cheers,

It's not to big, generally we meet in the carpark just between the petrol station and the A303. Just look for a group of bikes and bike trailers!

Cheers,
Jon

What a fantastic day out! My heart sank when the rain reduced visibility to about 500 yards at one point riding down to join you at Solstice Park and I thought of turning back - I'm so glad I didn't.

Adam, Russ, Donna, Jon, Jim you all did a superb job of looking after an assorted group of (pick your noun..). I was a bit nervous to say the least when I turned up on my 800 GS to find what looked like a collection of ISDE competitors on pogos but your warm welcome and excellent guiding soon had me feeling like an honoured guest.

Your choice of tracks was excellent and as promised it allowed for an exploration of the wetter bits or to keep high and (relatively) dry. Best fun I have had in ages!

As I hoped, it was a good test of my Metal Mules which worked perfectly. I did learn two things though - don't ride too close to the fences with them.. and don't leave a full bottle of mineral water to bounce around in a topbox, empty except for a few valuables that are really happiest when dry...

I'll post a few pix when I have come down from my high and had a couple of drinks.

Thanks!

Thanks all for a great ride!

My rear tire looks like somebody has chewed on it, this is clearly indicative of excellent choice of trails.

Glad to hear that Die Kriegsmarine was happy with the depth. Next time I might go diving with you, but I think I have to apply millards snorkle mod first.

Personally I had no idea that mother nature could be so soft and welcoming to a lost soul such as myself. I was pondering this as I was laying there, watching the sky and reaching for the emergency engine shutdown. To be honest, for a while I was seriously concerned that I would have to readjust my rear view mirror. Of course, this was not necessary.

The weather and my general idleness prevented me from taking too many pix but here are a couple of tasters

The locals looking very relaxed

Some great photos and videos...

I was a wimp an bailed out after the first couple of hours after my 1200 insisted having a lie down every time we found any sort of mud!

1200 + Tourances + Me = fine on gravel, rivers and puddles :)
1200 + Tourances + Me = hopeless on wet slimy mud :blast :o

Many thanks to Abel and the TRF guys for organising the day, especially Russ and other 'tail-enders' for picking me up a number of times and patiently coaching me through when I started to lose my nerve. A great bunch! :beerjug:
Cheers,
Paul

PS: the nose isn't broken, just bled a lot! :thumb

Can't really add anything to that so I'll just endorse everything that Chris said.
Thanks to you all for organising it and for babysitting myself and the other folk who needed it.
Thanks to all the rest of you for your company.
