I want to get a second wheels set so I have my road tires on one and knobbies on the other. I tend to do some pretty abusive north wales mountain routes so don't really need to have top of the range rims. Will anything from previous models fit?

Also if this quest fails and I end up having to swap tires (a real ball ache) can I get away without re-balancing as that adds a lot of cost. (I think that I already know the answer.....!)

No idea on this one, sorry :nenau

You already know the answer to this, however there's little point in having the wheels balanced just to go off road. Keep the speeds down and you'll get away with it.

If you are serious about getting some off road work done then just stick TKC's on and leave them there. They're surprisingly good road tyres (I prefer them to Tourances), as long as you aren't trying to get your knee down. Off road they're fine unless you hit deep mud or sand, in which case you're on the wrong bike anyway :D

Good point, I actually have the TKCs and was riding with chaps on 'normal' bikes this weekend. Just a little concerned about how fast the rear tire is going to disappear if I keep riding like that!

I just recently did the same as you intend. I put ads on the forum and got front and rear wheels plus 5 used TKC's (two of them virtually new) for around £200 all in from site members. The only pain is having to change the discs and ABS ring when I change sets of tyres but I'll keep an eye out for some second hand ones.

However I'd strongly agree wi Mutley that the TKC's are surprisingly good on the tarmac, even in the wet.
So much so that I'll probably leave them on unless I intend a particularly long road run.

That seems to be the way to go. What wheels fit? Only 1200s or 1150s etc etc?

Hi there - I recently fitted new TKC 80s for a trip to Morocco - the rear managed 3,200, probably only 200 max was offroad. I guess the truth is if you don't cane it accelerating then it lasts alot longer! I have a spare ABS ring if it'd be useful? It was on a spare pair of wheels I bought but had "the wrong number of holes" & so wouldnt sync up with the ABS & Speedo.

Yes, it might be the way to start putting the second set together. What do you want for it?

Hi - I reckon you need to check how many slots are in the one you have - otherwise you'll have the same problem I did - no speedo or ABS. This one has 100 slots that measure 3mm x 7mm - is it worth a tenner?
