I have been using it since last week in both the 2820 and Nav III - rode from Zurich to Bordeaux with it, works very well.

Best to use WebUpdater to get it, because there may be GTM traffic receiver and language file updates applicable to your GPSR as well.

Just a 'head's up' for everyone who downloads this new software for the 2820 and the BMW Navigator III:

I am pretty sure that you will get a Bluetooth firmware update with it. When I updated my BMW Navigator III (the one running production software, not the one running beta software), it downloaded a Bluetooth firmware update - hence the reason I suspect you will get one too. Anyway...

It seems that this Bluetooth firmware update flushes out the record of Bluetooth devices that have been previously paired with the GPSR. This means that you will have to re-pair your Bluetooth devices (phone, helmet, over the ear headset, whatever). The process of re-pairing the devices is very simple, but because it is not something that we do very often, chances are that (if you are like me, anyway) you have forgotten the secret button-pushing sequence on the Bluetooth accessory to initiate the pairing mode.

It's quite simple to initiate pairing from the GPSR - just press TOOLS, then BLUETOOTH, then MANAGE CONNECTIONS, and if you don't see your toys listed, press 'ADD DEVICE'. But, you usually have to put the external Bluetooth device (helmet, phone, whatever) into 'pairing mode', and that is the thing that probably none of us remember how to do. So... after you do the update, double-check to see if you need to re-pair devices... you don't want to find out 5 miles down the road that nothing is paired, especially if the manuals for the external devices are back at your house.

FYI, to initiate 'pairing mode' on a WCS-1 helmet, you turn it on, then briefly tap the 'Volume up' button. The full sequence of events is as follows:

1) Go to the MANAGE CONNECTIONS menu on the GPSR.
2) If you don't see your device listed, follow the instructions for adding a device. The GPSR gives very clear and simple directions.
3) When the GPSR tells you to make sure your device is in 'pairing mode', turn your helmet on, then briefly press the volume up button and release it.

You have 30 seconds to turn the helmet on and press the volume up button. Once you do this, the GPSR will discover it, and pair with it, and then you don't have to bother with this nonsense again (until, perhaps, the next Bluetooth firmware update).

PS: An extra added bonus in this software update (3.10), added at the request of the sport-touring riders, is that the speed now displays in indicated Mach number if you are above 240 km/h or 150 MPH.

This is very handy - when riding on the autobahn - for predicting exactly when the onset of high-speed buffet will take place.

High speed buffet?! Thats about 80 on my f650gs!!! :D

i used the web update service on my 2820 and it hung after completing 69% of the update. I had to download it and manually install the update. Now when i use my GPS the screen randomly goes completely blank apart from displaying "drawing..." on the screen. The only way to get it back is to power the GPS off and then back on again. I'm not sure if it's because of the faulty web update or something else. I've e-mailed Garmin about the problem and waiting for a response.

Had a similar problem when using WebUpdater - excruciatingly slow download and hung a few times. When the download was completed the updating process 'died' mid-process which left me with an equally dead SP2820 with 'No System'!!! Decided to manually download and update the system software all the while keeping my fingers crossed and hoping I didn't have to send the unit back to Garmin. Thankfully it loaded everything fine and it seems to be problem free so far. As PanEuropean mentioned, there's a bluetooth firmware update included which removes all previous setups/pairings which have to be set up again.

I used webupdater with no probs, then after uploading Version 3.10 it gave me the option to upload the 2 other updates, bluetooth and something else I don't use (can't remember what it was now  ) so I didn't bother with those.

Regards,

Charles

I ran the web update service again after doing the manual install of the new update and the 2 additional update services ( Bluetooth & GTM traffic update ) ran without any problems.
