Just a 'head's up' for everyone who downloads this new software for the 2820 and the BMW Navigator III:
I am pretty sure that you will get a Bluetooth firmware update with it. When I updated my BMW Navigator III (the one running production software, not the one running beta software), it downloaded a Bluetooth firmware update - hence the reason I suspect you will get one too. Anyway...
It seems that this Bluetooth firmware update flushes out the record of Bluetooth devices that have been previously paired with the GPSR. This means that you will have to re-pair your Bluetooth devices (phone, helmet, over the ear headset, whatever). The process of re-pairing the devices is very simple, but because it is not something that we do very often, chances are that (if you are like me, anyway) you have forgotten the secret button-pushing sequence on the Bluetooth accessory to initiate the pairing mode.
It's quite simple to initiate pairing from the GPSR - just press TOOLS, then BLUETOOTH, then MANAGE CONNECTIONS, and if you don't see your toys listed, press 'ADD DEVICE'. But, you usually have to put the external Bluetooth device (helmet, phone, whatever) into 'pairing mode', and that is the thing that probably none of us remember how to do. So... after you do the update, double-check to see if you need to re-pair devices... you don't want to find out 5 miles down the road that nothing is paired, especially if the manuals for the external devices are back at your house.
FYI, to initiate 'pairing mode' on a WCS-1 helmet, you turn it on, then briefly tap the 'Volume up' button. The full sequence of events is as follows:
1) Go to the MANAGE CONNECTIONS menu on the GPSR.
2) If you don't see your device listed, follow the instructions for adding a device. The GPSR gives very clear and simple directions.
3) When the GPSR tells you to make sure your device is in 'pairing mode', turn your helmet on, then briefly press the volume up button and release it.
You have 30 seconds to turn the helmet on and press the volume up button. Once you do this, the GPSR will discover it, and pair with it, and then you don't have to bother with this nonsense again (until, perhaps, the next Bluetooth firmware update).
