4 Oil changes, plus 2 oil flushes to final drive unit.

So after todays ride with 30,000 on the clock. dropped engine oil, gear box oil and FD oil. Engine and gear box oil as expected. FD oil was again black with metal bits picked up by magnet on ABS sensor. I change FD oil same time as engine oil and am still amazed how it looks i.e. contaminated.:eek:

I dread to think what the FD oil would be like after the 100,000 mile that the oil is alleged to be capable of (in the BMW FD Unit)

I don't want to make you panic... but I thought if there were flakes your FD is on the way out :( Certainly, that's what the guys at NOG told me about mine :tears

When it starts to shake, ratttle and roll. I'll take it to work, make tools and or extractors that are needed. Then get the bearing and seals from our suppliers. I've had BM's since 1972 and I am to old to panic about anything.:thumb2:thumb2

I like your style Dennis :thumb2

I'm putting a new one on mine but am keeping the original so that I can see about doing what you are suggesting. If you want one to practice on, let me know :thumb

Basically, I am a lazy sod, dont like work for works sake. If and when I have a problem with my FD Unit I am sure we can come to some satisfactory arrangement regarding your unit.

As a matter of interest, an acquantance has just replaced bearings and seals in an 1150 FD Unit for £50.00 including vat, but they did not come in a BMW box.
