Now to get it serviced on Monday, to unleash the beast that lurks within.

A word to the wise. If you have cause to pull the rear wheel out, the spindle is as dry as a dead dingo in the sun.

Copper slip is your friend on wheel spindles and swing arm bolt.

I used a pot of synthetic grease, which I have had knocking around for several years. It’s served its purpose well.

Surely you’ve got a lot more miles to do before you can bounce it off the rev limiter?

Not that I’m sure any RE actually has a rev limiter rather than the audible one which is valve bounce :D

Indeed, the beast needs to drowse a bit for another 1,000 miles, before it slips its chain, but I gain about 2,000 RPM. Assuming I take it to Germany / Benelux next week, that will be somewhere in Germany, I guess. They’ll not have experienced anything like it locally, since the American army rolled into town in ‘44.

Let's hope that 'Time Heals All Wounds' , then!

A long time ago (way before GPS devices and phones) were in Germany, trying to find a small Ro-Ro ferry which crossed the Rhine. Besides not being able to even find the bloody big river, we had no idea where the ferry might be. A friend, who claimed to speak German (but had produced zero evidence of it so far) spotted a rather smartly dressed but really quite old German lady. He jumped off his bike, marched up to her and shouted…. “WHERE IS DER RHINE!!!?”.

To our complete amazement she proceeded to point vaguely westwards.

He marched back and announced loudly, “She got the same question in 1944”.

Happy days.

I’m almost embarrassed to admit that my 650 still has some mikes to go before I unchain the beast within. That’ll probably be in Germany as well :D

I will be doing a lap of Chimay on the Monday after race weekend of course.

Mine hasn't rolled a wheel since getting back from Germany. I hope to address that later today. Life has just been too busy with other stuff.
