Just fitted some 30mm bar risers and noticed the brake line for the front brake is a little tight, especially at full right lock.

I've gone and twisted the handlebars forwards to give it a bit more slack but need a permanent solution.

What have others done about this problem, will I need to get a new brake line and if so is there a specific one I need?

Cheers :beerjug:

F650 or F800?
I was considering trying a set of these, A Wunderlich set are on E Bay. The info sheet states rises 20MM, designed so no changes needed to brake hoses.

With the hose running between the master cylinder and a fixing point on the left lower yolk what is catching when you apply full lock? I have tried to simulate your problem on our F650 and F800 but nothing comes close to snagging.

It looks an expensive hose to replace unless you do away with some of the solid mounting points. Its one piece from the bars to the caliper.

F800GS, the bar risers are SW Motech 30mm.

The brake line is not snagging on anything it's just stretched further away, without the bar risers I can pull the brake line around throughout the entire steering range with a fair amount of wiggle. Now it's fine on left lock, and dead ahead, but on full right lock it's a bit tight.

I'm not sure how strong these lines are, I'd just rather not have it pulling itself apart.

Bought my risers off this site so not too sure which make, but think they maybe touratech 25mm. Put them on my 800 and all the cables were fine. Just been out to check and confirmed all ok.

hope that helps:thumb2

I've put a couple of photographs up to demonstrate my problem, this is with the handlebars twisted forwards, I'd like twist them back to normal but this would stretch the brake line further than I'd like.

In left lock it's fine...

But on right lock it stretches.

Is this too much, considering I want to twist the handlebars backwards? If not, where do I go to get a new brake line, I don't mind replacing it.

FFS man get a grip.......how the hell ya gonna get a decent Taunton cider by leaving squashed apples on yer drive:D

On a serious note your cable stretch is about the same as mine. I havent changed mine and feel comfortable with it. It hasnt hampered any turning circles or fowled any movement.

I'll be buggered if im gonna take any photos though, in fear of pi$$ taking retribution:thumb

No problem Mr Richie, just wanted to demonstrate how long the line was being stretched.

Apples on the drive are actually the neighbours, I'll be delivering them back to them via their windows...

Might look at extending the line soon, want the bars back at a decent level.

Cheers!

Not sure if this would work but I put some on my 1200 and dropped the forks and ran them that way and ended up fine. Don't know the 800 that well.

Gunz - It's a Stebel Magnum and it was a piece of piss to install, the connection to power was pretty easy to fit together.

Dave - Good idea, I think the banjo has a stump out one end of it, not sure if this prevents it from being rotated but will have a look later.

The Banjo is fixed and cannot be rotated - it's positioned like that to let the fork-leg turn into the curve it makes.

In any event you need to be careful if you start messing about with an ABS equipped 800, the ZFE unit needs to be re-set if the brakes are bled or you crack a joint, and without a re-set it will disable the ABS ... allegedly.

You fill me with confidence Greg... it is an ABS equipped bike, what is a ZFE unit and is that something that would be reset using a GS911 thingermajig?

Well from experience you can crack the nut just enough to allow a banjo to rotate without even loosing fluid.

I can just about understand a reset after complete fluid loss, but from a brake bleed? Sounds like b*llocks to me!
