Thanks for everybodies replys, its certainly giving me some food for thought.

IPad? I'm yet to be convinced i'm afraid, as a portable device (ie carried by hand) it seems OK. But I have the room set aside for a desktop and have no need for carrying the world in my pocket, ifear if I bought an Ipad i'd be back down the apple shop looking at the Imac's before long.
