Just wondered if anybody had had fitted the 3M Venture Shield to there LC ?
Saw the stand at the NEC show in November last year, it looks a really good product
I live in Shrewsbury and the local recommended company who installs them can't even be bothered to give me a price.
I've phoned them four times now !!

So if you can recommend anyone else I would appreciate it.

Cheers

Hi,
I have fitted it myself to many bikes and it was quite easy on the LC...
only thing not to my liking is that they supply Matt finish for the knee side panels in hope of it matching the matt ish finish on bike,,

its too matt,,,

but other than that works brill easy to remove if you want to and incredibly strong..

Id ride up to help you fit it if you weather a little nicer.. :thumb2

as for who to fit locally ? sorry cant help much but try contacting Venture shield direct if you can for alternative suppliers/fitters

Strange I've fitted 2 full kits for the wc, both bikes the knee panel pieces were not mat !

I'd say have a go yourself but it needs to be somewhere warn when you apply as you need to leave it for 24hrs to heal, I've just done some fork legs on a wc and i left them overnight with the heater on to dry out all the moisture and heal.

I buy all my kits and sheets from here.

cheers dingdong, Ive contacted them and they may be able to supply me with gloss ones.. result! :thumb2

I've put 3M field on my last half-dozen bikes, including the GS. I've always done it myself but this time got it done at a fitter in Northampton.

I got a chance to compare both the matt and the gloss panels actually on the bike. I went with matt on the tank sides and gloss on the tank centre, "fangs" and headlight. To my eyes, the matt was much better and almost invisible.

bellyboy, I'm in Bedfordshire if you wanna meet up somewhere and see the matt "in the flesh". :)

Hi Hamsley,

Thanks for offer much appreciated,, however, Ive actually got the venture shield fitted and find the matt although nice initially,, has gone cloudy and I cant polish out,,?

Ive tried all types of cleaner polish water etc but still looks milky in places ?

Hi, ive always paid £150 for the dealer to fit the Ventureshield in the past but this time bought my own full kit for £50.
Piece of piss to fit (comes with everything you need).

Bought the gloss kit (didnt know there was anything other lol) and it looks great!

Ive only used Venture Shield (Zagg actually but same stuff) on a mobile phone. The product is amazing and almost self heals when caught enough to otherwise cause a scratch. Its not low cost so unless you know the pre-cut kit will fit, get it done professionally.

Thanks Guy's !
It seems as though the fitting is quite expensive, so think I'll order a kit and see how my DIY skills are ?

Will let you know how it turns out.

Cheers

FWIW a top tip especially if your putting the film on black, use distilled water not tap water as the residue from the tap water when dry can leave marks etc.
I don't know if the kit comes with a hard spatula etc to apply the film (as I make my own kits), but one is very useful.

Good tip!
Do you know what the application fluid is they send you and where can buy more?

The basic kit isnt too bad to fit on a gs , i fitted it on my last gsa. Whilst applying, you need to keep the sheets in the kit mega wet with the soap and water solution on both sides until you've lined it up, then squeegee away from the centre out (keeping spraying the top surface from memory ). Keep plugging away and you will get there, at first it can seem like the panel on the back of the tank (eg tank pad area) will take forever and never mould itself to the contours. A draft free garage and patience helps. I got perfect results and I'm a novice, allow an hour as a guide, the side tank panels and are easy in comparison, because they are fairly flat surfaces.

Buy from the link i posted and you get a square squidgee and an applicator bottle for the liquid from memory. I think i just used water but maybe it had some fairy liquid in, it was whatever it said to do on the supplied instructions. I applied the stuff to a smoke grey bike and there were no marks left when i'd done.

You didn't squeegee it out enough or your soapy solution wasn't right, happened to me on my 1st attempt!
2nd time round prefect!

Do not just use water .

They use baby bath couple drops in the bottle and fill with water. I use large pump spray bottle with water and Baby bath as well. Also another tip cut the pieces out with the backing still on, and just template first so you no it will fit perfect, and if room temp ain't 100% i just warm the pieces up with an hairdryer (i use heat gun, but for the novice stick with hairdryer) until it feels a bit more flexible and than spray solution on your finger tips and peel off the backing, if you don't wet ya finger tips it will stick and leave your prints in the film, once your happy with the fit and finished working the piece, use you hairdryer and go around the edges, don't be afraid to use plenty of solution on both sides, this way you get more time to work it.

If you buy the kit from Showtrax international, it comes with everything you need and you can buy extra bottles of the solution for 50p

I do all the parts that are subject to stone chips ie final drive shaft housing, and the inside the wheel area, clocks, even done my twat nav and iphone screens, and I've just done the front and top of my shoei neotec and made the templates myself.

you clean all panels with methylated spirits (the purple stuff ), just put a small amount on a lint free cloth or paper towel and wipe over the area, than use a dry cloth/towel to remove any bits .

Take your time, use plenty of solution, keep your fingers wet when handling the film, and its easy peasy, also if you use my method of cutting the pieces out with the backing on and template fit, you will see if the piece slightly overlaps or runs off the edge if so just trim with some sharp scissors before you remove the backing off.
