Bike is just coming up on 2 years old and have had the letter from BMW offering to extend the warranty to 3 years - for the princely sum of something like £659. Seems like a lot of money but then am conscious that some of the potential repairs can also be expensive - although (touch wood) after a battery change and hydraulic module (not long after the bike was new), have had no troubles at all with her since.
Would be interested to know what others have done and whether they have bought the extended warranty or kept the loot and taken a chance?

hard decision which we all have to face- a lot of money for a years cover though personally i think i will risk it

I'm sure if you were to put £650 in the bank for every year post warranty and spent on warranty items, you'd remain up on the deal.

A pity BMW can't demonstrate more confidence in its bikes (via a reduced cost), particularly those that are only 2yrs old.

Agree with that. Such a large amount of money (considerably more than the insurance premium for two bikes) does make you wonder if BMW are expecting something that you aren't! I also reckon that it is a bit sad that the warranty isn't three years in the first place as it is for most cars.

.......Dead right.......:thumb2

Complete "No Brainer"......£650.00 for one year's cover !!!!!!!!!!!!  .......What are they on?....

Roll the dice, and stuff 'em.......:)

I can't justify spending £650 on it... if anything goes wrong on mine, I'd try for a goodwill discount as mines a low mileage bike, and if anything big went, then I'd probably used Mitch at Motorrad services in Manchester.

Oh, I've just realised... mine ran out at the end of June :blast

My next purchases will be Andy's CD (eventually), then the Haynes manual if/when it's published, I've already got a well equipped garage for car fiddling, so I'm sure I've probably got enough tools, although I believe I need a special one for the oil filter and spark plugs.

Now it's out of warranty I can decide whether to start doing my own service work, or get Mitch to do it...I think I'll be keeping it for a while as my finances have changed to the point where I'd rather not upgrade... might even be forced to sell the GS :thedummy

Don't most manufactures have a goodwill period once warranty expires? You would expect premium after care for premium new bike prices!
