40 days old and subframe paint gone!

It's always amusing seeing the old 1100/1150 owners chiming in about quality and forgetting little things like the paint peeling off engine covers and fork braces, petrol fumes seeping through the petrol tanks and making the tank stickers go all manky and the finish on the wheel rims not being up to scratch on their old bikes :D

Yeah "ROSE TINTED GLASSES" springs to mind:green gri

so.. I went to the dealers this morning about the frame & paint issue that I believe is mainly being caused by the newer style shity bendy plastic heel guards as a posed to the chunky ally ones on other bikes, all went well as they to both agreed and were quite surprised at how little protection they give from the frame as the tips of the.guards are under the rear frame tube, I explained I'm happy to buy frame covers but only once the rear frame is changed and the guards replaced with the ally ones, the bike has to go back next week for photos and the report to be sent so all looking good to be put right, I'd strongly advise anyone with the same style heel guards to get them changed asap or buy the covers, so another thumbs up for the fella's at chandlers from me:beerjug:

I took this up with a dealer, they state the problem is that new euro legislation means you have to use water based paint, I countered this with well I am buying a very expensive, top of the range prestige vehicle is it too much to expect that they can powder coat the frame and casings to prevent corrosion and warranty claims

I have a new 64 plate GSA TE and alreday the paint just up from the supposed heal guards has worn through to the bare metal,I dont wear crosser style boots I use alpinestars smx4's and bmw rallye trousers over the top down to my ankles, this I might expect after a couple of years or hard ridding with mx boots but after just 40 days of ownership and just going to and from work etc wtf!!! The heal guards are just shit bendy plastic and all this on the worlds greatest adventure bike...??? I love the bike dont get me wrong but this is poor...! My 10yr old gsa 1150 hasnt even worn in the same place after 10yrs!.. warannty claim..?

thanks rob

I thought these bikes were built in China

So nothing has changed. I've had the steel frame parts on my 2008 Adventure powder coated. The provider used zinc primer/undercoat with gloss black over
Road salt hasn't helped but it was rusty everywhere, even under the seat mount rubbers, which have not been off the bike since it left the factory.

I'd like to see Boorman and McGregor do long way round on the toilets, it would be a total disaster .

I dont agree.. it could be the start of a whole new series for them and most gs owners... they could do..

long way round the car park...
long way round the block...
long way round the garden..
long way round the park..
long way round the showroom..

The list is endless as long as its not over 1 mile from a fully speced suport crew :-)

I should see about a licence of some kind for this idea before Boorman jumps on it !

I have pictures just not sure how to get them. on here, and tap talks a pain in the arse,
post them to photobucket website or imgur.com and put link to picture in

I was lucky with my 06 rear subframe did the same after 150 miles, was removed and re sprayed with two pack been brilliant ever since hence no real rush to change bikes.

Update on the frame issue as of today and I can report after a few swift emails and pictures sent from the dealers to the warranty people and then the customer service dept theyve decided to represent they're flagship greatest adventute bike on the planet ever made and do absolutely f##kall about it..!!!

Two months old and this kind of wear is apparently exceptable ! Is it f##k...!

Just aswell the polish knobhead that knocked me off my 1150 GSA insurance company have finally agreed to write it off atlast and let me keep it so I can get on with fixing that,

looks like im gonna need it :-(
