My rear metzeler tourance exp is really low after only 4000 miles, only low in the middle. Sides are perfect. I don't do many motorway miles and I'm not shy on the twisties. Is this normal, I keep the rear at 2.8 bar.

£120 to replace inc fitting and vat.

Do I bin the EXP and replace both or just replace the rear?

Sick of spending!

EXP's are renowned for wearing quickly. 4K is about right for most people and most peepes will do two rears to one front. If it was me I'd just replace the rear with the same again, and then next time by a pair that suits yer fancy. (PR3's / Roadsmart 3's .. ).

Mine did the same 4200 miles just ordered a new set with the rear been the “M” specification to satisfy higher mileage needs when mounted on large Enduro-street "Adventure" bikes or so the website states

A couple of pictures.

Anakee's wear much better than these, as do the Dunlop Trailmax TR91's I'm currently running.
Got about 3.5k on the current pair and the rear only looks half worn compared to yours, and I show them no respect!

EXP's are nowhere near as good as the original Tourances for longevity.

Swings and roundabouts - the original Tourances are nowhere near as good as EXP's for grip ... :D

No but they grip the line a bit better:thumb ,so i suppose we can,t have it all:D

I got about 4500 out of the exp's that came with the bike. About 7000 out of standard tourances although pretty square but plenty legal. Never had an issue with tourances wet or dry but they are a noisy tyre. Just ordered a set of conti trail attacks to see what they are like. Conti road attacks lasted for ever on my TDM but that's a fair bit lighter than the Bavarian tractor

I just replaced my exp's with Next yesterday. Have done about 150 miles today round North Wales. A road, B roads, goat tracks and byways. Roads ranged from damp through to dry. We were pressing on.

The verdict... Next are excellent, felt confident on gravelly back roads and as good as anything i have ridden on the fast sweepers. Very stable straight ahead at speed. Wet grip inspired confidence.

Not great on a muddy byway, but that is not what I bought them for.

My son who generally rides quicker than me had problems keeping up on the faster roads.

Yes, thumbs up for NEXT from me:thumb2

I did 8k mls on my standard fitted Metzelers (2012 GSA so that is the EXP right?). The centre was completely gone by then, as were the edges. Did lots if miles with luggage and about 1200mls 2-up + luggage.

Now have done about 4k mls on set of Conti Trail Attack, still look decent to the eye. Found it hard to turn in, but once in very stable and grippy. Not sure if I have slightly mal manufactured front as there is loads of weight on the rim to balance it, could be cause of harder turn in. But managed to scrape the pegs and not fall off, so pretty impressed.

I put Next on my 800GS on Tuesday, gave them a good scrubbing, and today did 440 miles to the Highlands on them, in fookin awful conditions. Felt solid and planted all the way up, I'm impressed with them so far!
