4th seems to be well noisy. All the other gears seem fine ,first is a bit whiny.I remember my 1150 gsa being the same. I put all new bearings in that and it was still as bad.Need some help boys .it;s driving me nuts as it always seems to the gear i am in most around london.

Geezer, 4th gear around London is brave. :blagblah

Did you replace the roller bearings and then measure the 3rd & 4th gear installation end play on the output shaft after assembly? It'll probably be okay but might be worth checking how much swarf is on the magnetic gearbox sump plug on the bottom of the gearbox housing.

My 1150 gsa is the same, 4th gear pulses. Seems a few others on here have the same problem when I last did a search.

Yeah fully rebuilt that box to the book all most.My brother has that bike going like a tropper but still whines a bit. Prob now with my 1150 gs standard box.

Earlier this year I replaced my clutch assembly and thought it was vibrating a lot over 4.5K RPM but I have now got used to it. Instead of stripping it down again you could try the same again and check that sump plug to see if there's a lot of metal stuck to it after a recent overhaul: It's only gearbox oil and it's worth twenty minutes to drain, check and replace.

Did that to day already no crap in oil at all..

Good news.

If it was me Geezer, I'd try and ignore it for a week or so and check that sump plug again. You're either looking at another strip down, which you don't want to do (unless you have time on your hands) or another sump plug check.

I haven't looked up how much the parts cost but I'd rather risk them being okay, and just bedding in, rather than take that lot out again: It's clearly one or the other before you can learn anything about the problem.

Doesn't matter what gear it's in they all use the same bearings :D
